Rapid Growth Since 2014
Since April 2014, India’s transmission network has expanded by 71.6%, adding 2.09 lakh ckm of lines and 876 GVA of transformation capacity. Inter-regional power transfer capacity now stands at 1,20,340 MW, successfully realizing the government’s vision of “One Nation – One Grid – One Frequency.” This growth has facilitated seamless electricity transfer across the country while supporting increasing renewable energy integration.
Ongoing Expansion Projects
Inter State Transmission projects currently under implementation are expected to add around 40,000 ckm of transmission lines and 399 GVA of transformation capacity. Intra State Transmission projects will contribute an additional 27,500 ckm and 134 GVA, further strengthening grid reliability and enhancing power evacuation capabilities. These expansions are crucial for accommodating India’s non-fossil energy target of 500 GW by 2030.

The newly commissioned transmission line and ongoing projects support the rapid growth of India’s renewable energy sector, ensuring efficient evacuation of power from solar and wind zones.
