In a heartfelt step toward global cooperation and agricultural advancement, Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan met today with Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Avi Dicter, at the National Agricultural Science Complex in New Delhi. The high-level meeting marked Mr. Dicter’s first official visit to India in his ministerial role, and the discussions reflected a deep spirit of friendship and shared purpose between the two nations.
The meeting resulted in the signing of a crucial Agriculture Cooperation Agreement, along with the exchange of a Work Plan in the horticulture sector. These agreements aim to boost collaboration in vital areas such as soil and water management, crop production, post-harvest technologies, mechanization, animal husbandry, and research and development. The commitment expressed by both leaders emphasized not only technical progress but also a shared vision for sustainable growth and food security.
Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan reaffirmed India’s deep-rooted belief in the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world is one family — and underscored the nation’s growing strength under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He highlighted how the ongoing cooperation with Israel has already brought tangible benefits through initiatives like the Centers of Excellence (CoEs), which are revolutionizing farming practices across the country. He also appreciated Israel’s innovative “Villages of Excellence” model, which aims to bring state-of-the-art technology to the grassroots level.
Both sides agreed to jointly explore a Five-Year Seed Improvement Plan to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. In the face of global challenges like climate change and a growing population, the ministers stressed the urgent need for innovation, particularly in the development of high-yield seed varieties and cutting-edge farming technologies.
Mr. Dicter expressed his admiration for India’s efforts in digital agriculture and its ability to empower farmers through smart, technology-driven solutions. He conveyed Israel’s willingness to deepen cooperation and strengthen knowledge exchange, recognizing that shared experience and mutual respect form the foundation of meaningful collaboration.
The meeting saw participation from senior officials from both countries, including ambassadors, agricultural experts, and joint secretaries from various divisions. The two nations also discussed improving market access and reviewed their ongoing partnerships in horticulture.
Concluding the meeting, Shri Chouhan warmly invited the Israeli delegation to participate in the upcoming World Food India 2025, expressing hope that the partnership would continue to blossom. He reiterated India’s commitment to global welfare, emphasizing how partnerships like this serve as beacons of hope in building a more food-secure and prosperous world.
