India is set to celebrate Parakram Diwas 2025 from January 23 to January 25, marking the 128th birth anniversary of the iconic freedom fighter, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. This year’s celebrations will take place in Cuttack, Odisha—Netaji’s birthplace—at the historic Barabati Fort. The event will be inaugurated on January 23 by Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.
Historical Significance of Parakram Diwas
The Government of India began commemorating Parakram Diwas in 2021 to honor Netaji’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle. The tradition has evolved significantly since then:
- In 2022, a hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled at India Gate, New Delhi.
- In 2023, 21 unnamed islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago were named after Param Vir Chakra awardees.
- In 2024, the event was inaugurated by the Prime Minister at the historic Red Fort, the site of the Indian National Army (INA) trials.
