India Sets the Cricket World Ablaze: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma Break 5 Records in One Test

RR Team, September 30, 2024September 30, 2024

The Indian cricket team delivered an explosive performance on Day 4 of the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur, setting five world records. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a stunning 72 runs, while KL Rahul contributed a quickfire 68, leaving fans and experts in awe. From the very first ball, India’s opening batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, displayed aggressive intent, dominating the Bangladeshi bowlers and reaching the 50-run mark in just three overs.

This remarkable achievement marks the first time in Test cricket history that a team has scored 50 runs within the first three overs. The previous record was held by England, which reached a half-century in 26 balls. India broke that record by a significant margin, reaching 50 runs in just 18 balls during this match.

India’s previous record for the fastest team fifty was 5.2 overs against England in Chennai in 2008. The current fastest fifties in Test cricket now stand as follows:

3.0 Overs: India vs. BAN, Kanpur, 2024
4.2 Overs: England vs. WI, Nottingham, 2024
4.3 Overs: England vs. SA, The Oval, 1994
4.6 Overs: England vs. SL, Manchester, 2002
5.2 Overs: Sri Lanka vs. PAK, Karachi, 2004
5.3 Overs: India vs. ENG, Chennai, 2008
5.3 Overs: India vs. WI, Port of Spain, 2023

Following this, India also set a record for the fastest team hundred in Test cricket, reaching the milestone in just 61 balls (10.1 overs), breaking their previous record of 12.2 overs against the West Indies in 2023. The fastest hundreds in Test history now include:

10.1 Overs: India vs. BAN, Kanpur, 2024
12.2 Overs: India vs. WI, Port of Spain, 2023
13.1 Overs: Sri Lanka vs. BAN, Colombo SSC, 2001
13.4 Overs: Bangladesh vs. WI, Mirpur, 2012
13.4 Overs: England vs. PAK, Karachi, 2022
13.4 Overs: England vs. PAK, Rawalpindi, 2022
13.6 Overs: Australia vs. IND, Perth, 2012

India continued to impress by also setting the record for the fastest 150 in Test history, achieving the milestone in just 18.2 overs, surpassing their previous record of 21.1 overs set against the West Indies in 2023.

The Rohit Sharma-led team didn’t stop there; they scored the fastest 200 in Test cricket in 24.4 overs, breaking Australia’s previous record of 28.1 overs against Pakistan in Sydney in 2017. Finally, in the 30th over, India reached 250 runs in the shortest time in Test history, accomplishing this feat in 30.4 overs, bettering England’s record of 33.6 overs against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2022.
