In a significant step toward promoting clean sport and enhancing global cooperation in anti-doping efforts, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) India successfully hosted the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Intelligence & Investigations (I&I) Workshop in New Delhi from May 12 to 16, 2025. Supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the workshop witnessed participation from representatives of national anti-doping organizations, law enforcement agencies from countries such as India, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines, as well as officials from the South Asia Regional Anti-Doping Organization.
The five-day workshop, held in collaboration with INTERPOL and Sport Integrity Australia, brought together intelligence and investigations experts from across the globe. It offered an invaluable platform for knowledge sharing and practical training on modern investigative techniques, open-source research, confidential source management, and athlete protection strategies. The event underscored the importance of international collaboration and proactive measures to uphold the integrity of sports and protect clean athletes.
Shri Anant Kumar, Director General of NADA India, expressed pride in hosting such a pivotal gathering, noting that the shared expertise and connections formed during the sessions would significantly contribute to building robust investigative capabilities across the region. He emphasized the commitment of NADA India to supporting clean sport through active learning and global cooperation.
WADA’s Director of Intelligence and Investigations, Mr. Günter Younger, also lauded the workshop’s success and India’s role in advancing WADA’s mission. He highlighted the notable progress being made in the region under the Intelligence & Investigations Capability and Capacity Building Project, expressing confidence in its long-term impact on sport integrity worldwide.
This workshop forms a crucial part of WADA’s ongoing initiative to strengthen its Global Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network (GAIIN). With a focus on building regional capabilities and enhancing collective effectiveness, the project continues to bring together committed partners working tirelessly to eliminate doping in sports. A second installment of the workshop is already planned for July 2025 in India, reinforcing the country’s central role in this global movement.
