India will observe a day of State Mourning on Saturday, 26th April 2025, as the nation joins the world in paying its final respects to His Holiness Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Holy See. The day coincides with the funeral of the beloved spiritual leader, whose life was devoted to compassion, peace, and the service of humanity.

In solemn tribute, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across all buildings in India where it is regularly displayed. As a gesture of mourning and reverence, there will be no official entertainment on that day.
The Government of India had earlier declared a three-day State Mourning as a mark of respect for the Pope’s passing. The first two days of mourning were observed on 22nd and 23rd April, and the final day will be observed on the day of his funeral.
The loss of Pope Francis is felt deeply around the world. Known for his humility, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the poor and marginalized, he left behind a legacy that transcended faiths and borders. India, home to a vibrant Christian community and a long tradition of religious harmony, stands in solidarity with all those grieving this profound loss.
