Indian Navy Commissions INS Aravali in Gurugram

RR Team, September 13, 2025September 13, 2025
The Indian Navy officially commissioned its latest naval base, INS Aravali, in Gurugram on 12 September 2025. The commissioning ceremony was attended by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), along with Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, VCNS, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, DCNS, senior naval officers, and distinguished guests. The new base is poised to enhance India’s maritime security, information dominance, and operational collaboration.

Commissioning Ceremony Highlights

The event featured a 50-men Guard of Honour for the CNS. Captain Sachin Kumar Singh, the first Commanding Officer of INS Aravali, recited the Sanskrit invocation and read the commissioning warrant. Mrs Shashi Tripathi, President of the Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA), unveiled the commissioning plaque, followed by hoisting the Naval Ensign to the National Anthem. The ceremony concluded with the breaking of the commissioning pennant, symbolizing the official operational readiness of the base.

Strategic Role and Objectives

Admiral Tripathi highlighted that INS Aravali provides a robust foundation for administrative and logistical support, aligning with the increasing scale and sophistication of naval operations. He stated, “This base will not only be a hub of technology but also a centre for collaboration, linking our platforms and partners across the oceans. It embodies the Prime Minister’s vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.”

The CNS urged the commanding officer and crew to uphold the Navy’s core values of Duty, Honour, and Courage while leveraging information dominance to achieve operational excellence.

Maritime Domain Awareness and Communication

INS Aravali is designed to support various information and communication centres of the Indian Navy, essential for command, control, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) frameworks. The base will facilitate seamless operations across naval units, MDA centres, and allied stakeholders, ensuring India’s strategic interests are safeguarded in the Indian Ocean Region.

Guided by the motto ‘सामुद्रिकसुरक्षायाः सहयोगं’ or ‘Maritime Security through Collaboration,’ the base exemplifies collaborative ethos, enabling effective coordination between naval units, technology centres, and strategic partners.

Symbolism of the INS Aravali Crest

The base crest features the Aravali mountains at its centre, symbolizing resilience and steadfastness, while the rising sun represents vigilance, energy, and the dawn of advanced technological capabilities. This imagery reflects the base’s commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests and supporting niche capabilities in communications and MDA.

Future Outlook

INS Aravali strengthens the Indian Navy’s operational and technological edge in maritime security. The base will serve as a key platform for strategic coordination, intelligence sharing, and technology-driven maritime operations, reinforcing India’s position as the preferred security partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
