Top Leadership and Sports Icons Grace the Event
The flagship Half Marathon was flagged off by the Chief of the Naval Staff in the presence of the Chief of the Army Staff, highlighting the strong joint leadership of India’s armed forces. The 10 km run was inaugurated by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh L Mandaviya, alongside senior naval leadership.
Adding star power to the event were Padma Bhushan awardees Saina Nehwal and PR Sreejesh, whose presence inspired young runners and sports enthusiasts. Senior officials from title partner IDFC First Bank, along with representatives from IOCL and other associate partners, were also present.
Historic Route and Seamless Coordination
The race route passed through some of New Delhi’s most iconic landmarks, including India Gate and Kartavya Path, offering participants a memorable running experience. The event was executed with meticulous planning and coordination, supported by the Delhi Police, Delhi Metro and the New Delhi Municipal Council.
Naval sailors and officers ran alongside civilian participants, creating a powerful visual of unity, endurance and teamwork. Athletes from diverse professional backgrounds showcased determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Promoting Fitness and Naval Aspirations
Beyond competitive sport, the marathon aimed to promote an active lifestyle and holistic well-being. The Indian Navy used the platform to encourage youth to consider a career in the armed forces, portraying naval service as a path defined by courage, discipline and service to the nation.
The event’s international participation further elevated its stature, reinforcing India’s growing reputation as a host for large-scale sporting events.
Winners Showcase Exceptional Endurance
The winners across categories demonstrated remarkable physical and mental resilience. In the 21.1 km Half Marathon, Dinesh secured the men’s open title, while Rima Patel emerged victorious in the women’s category.
In the 10 km run, Aaditya Tyagi claimed the men’s open title, and Ramini Patel topped the women’s category. The 5 km race saw Chanderpal Maiya and Anjali winning the men’s and women’s open titles respectively.
