INS Kadmatt Leads PNG 50th Independence Fleet Review

RR Team, September 7, 2025September 6, 2025

INS Kadmatt Commands Multinational Fleet Review in Papua New Guinea

In a remarkable display of maritime partnership and international camaraderie, the Indian Navy’s indigenously designed Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette, INS Kadmatt, led a mobile Fleet Review on 4 September 2025 as part of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Day celebrations. The event highlighted India’s growing role as a preferred security partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

Multinational Naval Participation

The ceremonial fleet included seven ships from five countries, with INS Kadmatt at the forefront. The lineup featured FNS Auguste Benebig, HMPNGS Gilbert Toropo, HMPNGS Ted Diro, HMPNGS Rochus Lokinap, VOEA Nqahau Koula, and HMAS Childers. Kadmatt, acting as the Officer Conducting the Serial (OCS), expertly navigated the complex harbour environment of Port Moresby, ensuring precise manoeuvres and safe conduct for all vessels.

Ships maintained a disciplined formation, sailing 600 yards apart in a single column before reaching pre-assigned saluting positions, demonstrating coordinated professionalism among multinational forces.

Preparation and Execution

The Indian Navy assumed responsibility for leading the Fleet Review on 1 September, conducting detailed briefings and issuing clear operational orders to all participating ships. This thorough preparation ensured seamless execution, highlighting the IN’s ability to conduct complex operations in a multinational environment.

The review concluded successfully with all vessels securing alongside safely, reflecting meticulous planning and operational excellence. Such events reinforce the Navy’s high standards of training, discipline, and interoperability with partner navies.

Significance for India and the Indo-Pacific

INS Kadmatt’s leadership in the Fleet Review underscores India’s growing maritime influence and the Indian Navy’s rising reputation as a trusted security partner. Analysts note that such multinational engagements strengthen cooperation and interoperability among like-minded navies, enhancing regional stability.

The event also showcased India’s naval capabilities and commitment to safeguarding maritime interests while fostering diplomatic relations through defence collaboration. It aligns with broader strategic objectives to maintain a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific.

Looking Ahead

As India continues to expand its maritime diplomacy, the successful conduct of the Fleet Review by INS Kadmatt demonstrates the Navy’s operational readiness and professional excellence. Future exercises are expected to deepen strategic partnerships and reinforce India’s position in regional security frameworks.
