No Vehicular Movement Until Further Orders
The Traffic Police advisory clearly stated that no vehicles will be allowed to move from Nagrota in Jammu towards Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar, or from the Kashmir side towards Jammu, until further notice.
Authorities said snow clearance and road restoration work is currently underway on the affected stretch. However, persistent weather challenges have slowed operations, making it necessary to continue the closure in the interest of public safety.
The Jammu–Doda road has also been declared closed due to prevailing adverse weather conditions, further restricting inter-district travel.
Commuters Advised to Follow Traffic Updates
Traffic Police Jammu and Kashmir urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel and to remain patient while clearance operations continue. Travelers have been advised to stay informed through official Traffic Police social media handles and Traffic Control Units before planning their journeys.
Officials stressed that weather conditions in the higher reaches remain unpredictable, and fresh snowfall could further delay reopening of the highway.
Special Advisory for Local Commuters
In a separate advisory, authorities asked commuters from Katra, Reasi and Udhampur districts to carry valid photo identity cards while travelling, as enhanced checking is being conducted at multiple checkpoints due to weather-related disruptions.
The Traffic Police reiterated that safety remains the top priority and warned against attempting travel on closed routes, which could endanger lives and obstruct snow clearance machinery.
Weather Conditions Under Watch
Meteorological officials have indicated that while weather conditions may improve gradually, intermittent snowfall in the Banihal sector and surrounding areas cannot be ruled out. Any improvement in road conditions will be communicated promptly through official channels.
Authorities confirmed that further updates regarding reopening of NH-44 will be issued based on real-time assessment of weather and road conditions.
