Search Operations Across Multiple Villages
According to security officials, searches are being conducted in Chatroo’s Singpura, Arigam Dwathar and Naidgam areas. These locations, characterised by dense forests and difficult terrain, have previously been used by militants as hideouts and transit routes.
The operation involves joint teams of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and central armed police forces. Area domination exercises, door-to-door searches, and combing operations are being carried out to ensure that no militant escapes the security net.
Internet Services Suspended as Precaution
As a preventive security measure, authorities temporarily suspended internet services in parts of Kishtwar district. Officials said the decision was taken to stop the spread of rumours, prevent misuse of communication platforms by militants, and ensure the safety of both civilians and security personnel.
Such restrictions are commonly imposed during sensitive counter-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have assured residents that services will be restored once the situation stabilises.
Operation Linked to Recent Jaish Encounter
The latest operation comes barely a week after a Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked terrorist from Pakistan was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Billawar area of Kathua district. That joint operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about militant movement near the international border.
During the encounter, security forces neutralised the terrorist after an exchange of fire. Jammu range Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti had confirmed that the operation was part of sustained efforts to dismantle terror networks operating in the region.
Weapons Recovered, Terror Links Confirmed
The slain militant in the Kathua encounter was identified as Usman, a Pakistani national associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad. Security forces recovered a US-made M4 carbine along with ammunition and other war-like stores from his possession, confirming cross-border terror linkages.
Officials said recoveries of such advanced weapons underline the continued attempts by terror outfits to infiltrate militants and arms into Jammu and Kashmir. Investigations into the broader module linked to the terrorist are still ongoing.
Heightened Vigil Across Chenab Valley
Security has been tightened across the Chenab valley, including Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts, following intelligence inputs suggesting possible militant movement. Checkpoints have been reinforced and additional patrols deployed along vulnerable routes.
Officials stressed that the focus remains on neutralising terrorists while ensuring minimal inconvenience to civilians. Residents have been urged to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activity.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security.
Situation Under Close Watch
While no encounter has taken place so far in Kishtwar, officials said the operation is being conducted cautiously due to the challenging terrain and the possibility of militants attempting to evade capture. Security forces are maintaining high alert levels until the search is concluded.
Authorities have assured that further information will be shared as the operation progresses. For now, the situation remains under control, with security agencies determined to prevent any terror-related incident in the region.
