Kamal Haasan Meets Rajinikanth Before Rajya Sabha Oath

RR Team, July 16, 2025July 16, 2025

In a warm and emotional gesture, veteran actor and politician Kamal Haasan visited his longtime friend Rajinikanth at his residence in Chennai. The heartfelt meeting took place just days before Haasan’s Rajya Sabha oath-taking ceremony.

A Bond Beyond Stardom

Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are not just cinema icons. They are symbols of enduring friendship in an ever-changing world. Despite being competitors in the Tamil film industry for decades, they have consistently shown mutual admiration and personal affection.

The meeting at Rajinikanth’s Poes Garden home on Wednesday was proof of that bond. The two legends embraced warmly. Kamal shared a few pictures from the meet on social media, calling it a special moment ahead of his journey into the Parliament.

Kamal Haasan’s Entry into Rajya Sabha

Kamal Haasan was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in June 2025. Backed by the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, his nomination was seen as a move to strengthen voices of progressive politics in the upper house.

His oath-taking ceremony is scheduled later this week. Before taking on the responsibility, Haasan chose to visit Rajinikanth, perhaps to share the news not just as a politician, but as a friend first.

Social Media Reaction

Photos of Kamal and Rajini’s meeting quickly went viral. Fans from across India celebrated the moment as a rare glimpse of genuine warmth between two towering figures.

On X (formerly Twitter), Kamal Haasan wrote, “Meeting my friend before stepping into a new phase. Gratitude and grace in abundance.” Rajinikanth was seen gifting Kamal a bouquet and offering heartfelt congratulations.

Rajinikanth’s Gesture: Simple, Yet Powerful

Rajinikanth has always stayed away from active politics after stepping down from his political ambitions in 2021. However, his support and blessings for Kamal Haasan’s political journey show that friendship trumps all boundaries.

This isn’t the first time Rajinikanth has appreciated Kamal’s political moves. In past interviews, he has called Kamal “a man of intellect and integrity.”

A New Chapter for Kamal Haasan

Known for pushing cinematic boundaries, Kamal is now ready to make his mark in the Rajya Sabha. His party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), may not have a stronghold yet, but this nomination gives him a national platform.

In the Rajya Sabha, he is expected to focus on issues like federalism, social justice, and cultural freedom—topics he has long advocated for both onscreen and off.

Political Significance of the Meeting

While the meeting was largely personal, it holds political weight. Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is witnessing realignment. Kamal’s Rajya Sabha nomination supported by DMK signals a deeper collaboration. And Rajinikanth’s public support, even symbolic, adds emotional capital.

Public Reaction and What It Means

The public sentiment is overwhelmingly positive. Fans see this as a reminder that personal respect can survive even in polarized times. The duo, who once ruled silver screens, now represent maturity and statesmanship.

The Indian film fraternity, too, lauded the camaraderie. Actress Khushboo Sundar tweeted, “Legends are not made overnight. Respect is earned, and these two have earned it with grace.”

A Reminder of Legacy

This meeting was more than a photo-op. It reminded everyone of their joint legacy. In times of division, their friendship reminds us of unity. In an era of superficial alliances, their bond feels real.

As Kamal Haasan enters the Parliament, he does so with the blessings of his closest friend. And for fans across the globe, that’s a moment worth celebrating.
