“Kan-Kan Mein Ram”: A Cultural Masterpiece

RR Team, July 24, 2025July 23, 2025

INTACH’s latest documentary redefines the Ramayana as a living cultural tradition through vibrant storytelling and diverse Indian art forms.

Documentary Launched by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat

On July 23, 2025, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) unveiled its latest documentary film, “Kan-Kan Mein Ram”, at a special screening in New Delhi.

The event was graced by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, who praised the film as a visual and cultural triumph. He described it as “a cultural compendium of universal values embedded in the Ramayana.”

Senior officials, scholars, and heritage experts joined the screening, marking a significant moment in India’s ongoing cultural revival.

Ramayana as a Living Tradition, Not Just Mythology

Minister Shekhawat emphasized that the documentary showcases the Ramayana not merely as mythology but as a living cultural tradition. He noted that its values and stories continue to shape Indian identity and collective consciousness.

The message of “Kan-Kan Mein Ram”—that Lord Ram exists in every particle, every being—transcends religion and connects all of humanity. The film conveys this spiritual truth through the vibrant lens of India’s diverse performing arts.

INTACH’s Role in Cultural Renaissance

During his address, the Minister lauded INTACH’s four-decade-long legacy in preserving India’s heritage. He praised their work on the Ganga Cultural Documentation Project, especially during his tenure at the Jal Shakti Ministry.

INTACH’s efforts span tangible, intangible, and natural heritage. From restoring monuments to documenting traditions, their work impacts schools, crafts, and community culture across the country.

Chairman Shri Ashok Singh Thakur and Member Secretary Shri Ravindra Singh welcomed the Minister and reiterated INTACH’s dedication to spreading India’s rich legacy through films, education, and publications.

A Cinematic Journey Through Ramayana Traditions

“Kan-Kan Mein Ram” takes viewers across India to witness the many forms in which the Ramayana is celebrated. Each scene is steeped in history, art, and local flavor.

The film features traditions like:

  • Yakshgana and Uppinakudru puppetry of Karnataka
  • Lanka Podi Yatra and Ravan Chaya of Odisha
  • Sattriya dance traditions of Assam
  • Mewati Bhapang performance from Rajasthan
  • The unique expressions of the Ramnami Samaj in Chhattisgarh

Each form reflects a unique regional interpretation, yet all are united by timeless values—devotion, dharma, and harmony.

The Power of Performing Arts in Cultural Preservation

This documentary isn’t just about visuals. It’s about memory, performance, and the living spirit of Indian traditions. Through ritualistic performances, puppetry, and folk dances, the film preserves the past while resonating with today’s audience.

INTACH shows that these cultural forms are not static. They evolve, breathe, and inspire the next generation. The project is a tribute to India’s intangible heritage, often neglected but deeply essential to our identity.

“Kan-Kan Mein Ram” – A Message for the World

The central theme of the film—“The Eternal Ram”—reminds us that divinity lies in every living being. It encourages compassion, unity, and inner strength, values that remain relevant across borders and beliefs.

As the film portrays, Ramayana’s message is not bound by geography or religion. It is a universal spiritual guide. This makes the documentary not just a film, but a philosophical offering to the world.

Conclusion: Culture as a Connector

“Kan-Kan Mein Ram” stands as a powerful reminder that cultural stories like the Ramayana continue to connect us. Through dance, music, and rituals, these traditions shape our moral compass and social unity.

INTACH’s commitment to capturing and conserving such heritage ensures that India’s soul is preserved for future generations. This documentary is a proud step in that direction—visually stunning, emotionally rich, and intellectually inspiring.
