Leaders Pay Tribute to Birsa Munda on Gaurav Diwas

RR Team, November 15, 2025November 16, 2025
India’s top constitutional leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, paid floral tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas at the Parliament premises on Friday. The solemn ceremony, held at Prerna Sthal, marked the birth anniversary of the revered tribal freedom fighter, who continues to inspire millions across the nation.

Nation Remembers the Iconic Tribal Freedom Fighter

Prominent dignitaries—including Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Members of Parliament, former MPs, and cultural representatives—joined the President and Vice President in commemorating Birsa Munda’s indomitable courage and leadership. The event highlighted his enduring legacy as a symbol of tribal identity, resistance, and social justice.

Birsa Munda, often called “Dharti Aaba,” led the historic Ulgulan (Revolution) against British rule. His fight for the rights to water, forest, and land became a powerful movement that ignited a sense of pride and self-determination among tribal communities. His life and ideals continue to guide national conversations on tribal welfare, empowerment, and inclusivity.

Om Birla’s Message: A Tribute to Courage and Nationalism

In a heartfelt message shared earlier on X, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid glowing tributes to Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary. He described him as an “eternal symbol of tribal identity and self-respect,” whose struggle transcended regional boundaries and inspired waves of nationalism across the country.

Birla recalled how Birsa Munda’s leadership awakened tribal communities and reinforced the fight against colonial injustice. His resolve, sacrifice, and visionary leadership, Birla said, continue to inspire generations pursuing justice, dignity, and cultural preservation.

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas: Honouring Tribal History and Heritage

Since 2021, the Government of India has observed November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to recognize the contributions of tribal freedom fighters. The day commemorates the courage, cultural richness, and heritage of India’s tribal communities, who played key roles in several resistance movements during the freedom struggle.

nationwide events were organized this year to honour tribal heroes and promote awareness of their sacrifices. Educational programs, cultural displays, and community gatherings highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous heritage and strengthening tribal inclusion in national development.

Cultural Performances Mark the Occasion

As part of the celebrations at Parliament, tribal folk artists from various states presented traditional performances that welcomed dignitaries and set a vibrant cultural tone for the event. Their dances and music showcased the diversity, unity, and cultural pride of India’s tribal communities.

A Legacy That Continues to Inspire

Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s legacy remains deeply embedded in India’s collective memory. His remarkable journey—from a young tribal leader to a national icon—continues to motivate ongoing efforts toward social justice, tribal welfare, and cultural dignity. The tributes paid at Parliament highlight the nation’s respect and recognition of his contributions.

As India continues to honour its tribal heritage, Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices and struggles that shaped the nation’s path to freedom. The celebrations reinforce the commitment to uplifting tribal communities and preserving their cultural identity for generations to come.
