Mandhana Leads RCB to Historic WPL Title Win Over Delhi

RR Team, February 6, 2026February 6, 2026
Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced one of the greatest run chases in Women’s Premier League history to defeat Delhi Capitals by six wickets in a pulsating final at Vadodara, clinching their second WPL title. Led by a sensational captain’s knock from Smriti Mandhana, RCB chased down a daunting target of 204 with just two balls to spare.
The victory not only underlined RCB’s growing dominance in women’s franchise cricket but also extended Delhi Capitals’ heartbreak, as they suffered a fourth consecutive defeat in a WPL final. The match, packed with momentum shifts and individual brilliance, showcased the rapid rise in quality and competitiveness of the league.

Delhi Capitals Post Record Final Total

Batting first, Delhi Capitals posted 203 for four in their 20 overs, the highest total ever recorded in a WPL final. Their innings was built on collective contributions across the top and middle order, ensuring sustained pressure on the RCB bowling attack.

Jemimah Rodrigues anchored the innings with a composed 57 off 37 balls, while Laura Wolvaardt added momentum with a fluent 44 from just 25 deliveries. The opening pair also gave Delhi a solid start, setting the platform for a late flourish.

West Indies all-rounder Chinelle Henry provided the finishing touch, smashing an unbeaten 35 off 15 balls, including multiple boundaries in the death overs. At the halfway mark, Delhi looked well placed to finally lift their maiden WPL trophy.

Mandhana and Voll Rewrite the Script

RCB’s chase began with an early setback as Grace Harris fell in the second over, but what followed was a breathtaking display of controlled aggression. Smriti Mandhana and Australia’s Georgia Voll stitched together a record-breaking partnership of 165 runs off just 92 balls, completely shifting the balance of the final.

Mandhana was at her fluent best, dismantling the Delhi bowling attack with precise placement and fearless stroke play. Her 87 off 41 balls was a masterclass under pressure and capped a remarkable tournament in which she finished as the leading run-scorer with 377 runs.

Voll complemented her captain perfectly, playing the anchor role while still maintaining a healthy strike rate. Her 79 off 54 balls ensured RCB never fell behind the required rate, even as the asking rate hovered around double digits.

Nervy Finish, Calm Nerves

The match took a dramatic turn in the closing overs when both Voll and Richa Ghosh were dismissed in quick succession. Mandhana herself fell in the penultimate over, leaving RCB needing 10 runs from the final six balls.

Radha Yadav stepped up under immense pressure, striking two crucial boundaries through the covers to seal the victory. Her calm finishing highlighted the depth and composure RCB have developed as a unit over the past two seasons.

RCB Cement Their Place in WPL History

The triumph ensured Royal Challengers Bengaluru joined Mumbai Indians as the most successful teams in WPL history, with two titles each. Having won their maiden crown in 2024, RCB’s latest success confirmed their consistency at the highest level.

Mandhana praised her team’s resilience after the match, highlighting the importance of disciplined bowling in the final overs and collective belief during the chase. Delhi captain Jemimah Rodrigues, despite the loss, lauded her team’s character in reaching yet another final.

The Women’s Premier League, organised under the aegis of the BCCI, continues to elevate women’s cricket in India by offering elite competition and global visibility.
