Key Reforms in Exploration Approvals
Previously, approval of exploration programs required evaluation by a committee constituted in January 2022. Under the new framework, GRs prepared by Notified Accredited Prospecting Agencies (APAs), accredited by QCI-NABET and peer-reviewed by another APA, no longer require committee clearance. This step is expected to save at least three months in approval timelines, enabling earlier operationalisation of coal blocks.

The reform underscores the Government’s confidence in private APAs. By leveraging their technological expertise, efficiency, and innovation, the Ministry of Coal aims to strengthen exploration capabilities while maintaining strict technical standards and transparency. Early completion of GR approvals will facilitate timely milestone achievements for coal block allottees.
