Ministry of Women and Child Development Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme

The Ministry of Women and Child Development commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme on January 22, 2025. Launched in 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this flagship initiative aims to address gender disparities and promote the welfare of the girl child in India.

The inaugural event at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, was attended by key dignitaries, including Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Annpurna Devi, and Minister of State for Women and Child Development Smt. Savitri Thakur.

Key Highlights

1. A Decade of Progress:

The National Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) improved from 918 in 2014-15 to 930 in 2023-24.

Gross enrolment of girls in secondary education increased from 75.51% to 78%.

Institutional deliveries rose from 61% to 97.3%.

First-trimester antenatal care registrations jumped from 61% to 80.5%.

2. New Initiatives Launched:

Several key measures were introduced to strengthen the scheme’s impact:

Compendium of Best Practices: Showcasing successful case studies from across the country.

Mission Vatsalya Portal: Focused on child welfare and protection.

Mission Shakti Portal and Mobile App: Empowering women through accessible resources.

3. Empowering the Future:

Union Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda emphasized the scheme’s success in improving healthcare and education access for girls. He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing opportunities for every girl to thrive.

Smt. Annpurna Devi highlighted how BBBP has become a catalyst for social change, elevating the status of the girl child and promoting equal opportunities.

Smt. Savitri Thakur acknowledged the cultural shift driven by the scheme, fostering an environment where girls’ rights and aspirations are valued.

4. Nationwide Celebrations:

The 10th-anniversary events will run from January 22 to March 8, 2025, culminating on International Women’s Day. Activities include rallies, cultural programs, campaigns, and a plantation drive promoting sustainability.

The event also featured participation from women officers across various fields, including the armed forces, police, healthcare, and science, alongside young students.

Vision for the Future

The BBBP scheme has transcended its status as a government program to become a nationwide movement.

The Ministry of Women and Child Development reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and girls, ensuring that initiatives like BBBP pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable India.
