MoSPI Invites Feedback on New National Accounts Methodology

RR Team, December 16, 2025December 16, 2025
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has initiated a key revision of India’s national accounts by setting FY 2022-23 as the new base year. To support this, MoSPI has released a discussion paper on methodological improvements in the compilation of National Accounts aggregates using the expenditure approach, inviting comments from experts and stakeholders.
The new series of National Accounts Statistics, based on FY 2022-23, is scheduled for release on 27th February 2026. This revision aims to incorporate new data sources and enhance the methodology for GDP estimation, ensuring more accurate and comprehensive economic indicators.

Advisory Committee and Expert Consultation

An Advisory Committee on National Account Statistics (ACNAS), chaired by Professor B.N. Goldar, has been constituted to guide MoSPI on these improvements. The committee includes representatives from central ministries, state governments, academia, and research institutions, ensuring a multi-stakeholder approach to refining national accounts methodologies.

This is the second discussion paper released by MoSPI, following the first paper on production/income-based compilation published in November 2025. The current paper focuses on expenditure-based GDP estimates and is accessible on MoSPI’s website (https://mospi.gov.in/announcements) and the Ministry’s X handle (@GoIStats) at https://x.com/GoIStats.

Pre-Release Consultative Workshop

MoSPI will conduct a “Pre-Release Consultative Workshop on the Base Revision of CPI, GDP, and IIP” on 23rd December 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Stakeholders and users of national accounts data can register for the workshop here.

Invitation for Feedback

MoSPI invites comments and suggestions from economists, academicians, government bodies, state governments, financial institutions, and all users of national accounts data. Feedback can be sent via email to ddg3.nad@mospi.gov.in by 7th January 2026.

The Ministry emphasizes that these improvements aim to provide more accurate economic insights for policymaking and analysis, reflecting India’s evolving economy and enhancing transparency and reliability of statistical data.
