National Sports Awards 2025: Deadline Extended to November 4

RR Team, October 29, 2025October 28, 2025
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has extended the deadline for submitting online applications for the National Sports Awards 2025 to November 4, 2025 (Tuesday). Earlier, the last date for submission was October 28, 2025. The extension provides additional time for eligible sportspersons, coaches, and organizations to complete the online nomination process.

About the National Sports Awards

These prestigious awards are among India’s highest honors for excellence in sports. They include the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award (including Lifetime category), Dronacharya Award, and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar (RKPP). The awards aim to recognize outstanding achievements and contributions to Indian sports at various levels.

The Ministry had earlier invited nominations on September 29, 2025, and published detailed notifications on its official website, www.yas.nic.in.

Where and How to Apply

Eligible sportspersons, coaches, and sports entities must submit their applications online via the official portal: dbtyas-sports.gov.in. The platform allows self-nomination and is also open for recommendations from recognized bodies such as:

  • Indian Olympic Association (IOA)
  • Sports Authority of India (SAI)
  • Recognized National Sports Federations
  • Sports Promotion Boards
  • State and Union Territory Governments

The Ministry emphasized that vigilance clearance is mandatory for all government servants applying for the awards. Nominations received after the new deadline of November 4, 2025 will not be entertained under any circumstances.

Why the extension matters

The National Sports Awards are a mark of national pride, celebrating sporting excellence across India. Extending the application deadline ensures broader participation and inclusion of deserving athletes who might have faced delays in document processing or nomination procedures. It also aligns with the Ministry’s vision of transparency and digital accessibility through self-nomination on the government’s dedicated portal.

Past significance of the awards

Over the years, the National Sports Awards have recognized exceptional talents across disciplines ranging from Olympic medalists to grassroots coaches. The Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award remains India’s highest sporting honor, awarded for extraordinary performance at the international level. Meanwhile, the Arjuna Awards celebrate consistent excellence and contribution to Indian sports.
