Premium Prices for Organic Produce
One of the major benefits rolled out by NCOL is the assurance of premium prices over conventional produce. Farmers have received:
- ₹5 per kg premium on organic paddy
- ₹5 per kg premium on organic tur (pigeon pea)
- ₹2 per kg premium on organic wheat
These price premiums are directly paid to farmers, eliminating middlemen and ensuring fair income realization.
Market Linkages through “Bharat Organics”
To provide assured markets, NCOL has facilitated linkages through retail networks and institutional buyers under its brand “Bharat Organics.” The initiative allows farmers to tap into expanding consumer demand for organic products, strengthening their financial stability while promoting healthier food choices for consumers.
Direct Engagement with Farmer Groups
NCOL works directly with Farmer Groups under Internal Control Systems (ICS), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, and certified organic clusters. This transparent procurement model ensures that farmers avoid exploitation by intermediaries, while strengthening collective bargaining power within the organic farming community.
Training and Capacity Building
In addition to financial incentives, NCOL organizes training programs for farmers. These sessions focus on organic cultivation practices, compliance with certification standards, and traceability in the supply chain. By equipping farmers with modern knowledge, NCOL ensures long-term productivity and competitiveness in the organic sector.
Long-Term Engagement Strategy
NCOL has entered into long-term procurement arrangements with NPOP-certified FPOs, cooperatives, and Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). Collaborations with agencies such as the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and NAFED are strengthening aggregation, infrastructure development, and promotional activities.
According to the Ministry of Cooperation, these steps are aimed at guaranteeing assured off-take, stable pricing, and sustainable income growth for organic farmers across key producing states.
A Boost for India’s Organic Movement
India has been witnessing rapid growth in organic agriculture, with rising domestic and international demand. By ensuring price stability and strengthening institutional linkages, NCOL’s model not only supports farmers but also contributes to India’s vision of becoming a global hub for organic produce.
