Key Dignitaries Highlight Importance of Women’s Health
The occasion was graced by Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, as Chief Guest. Smt. Annpurna Devi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development, and Smt. Savitri Thakur, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, attended as Guests of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Nadda stressed the vital role of women’s health in nation-building, stating, “A healthy woman gives birth to a healthy generation, and a healthy generation is the backbone of a strong, resilient, and prosperous nation.” He emphasized that investing in women’s health is a strategic national imperative.
POSHAN Abhiyaan Drives Transformative Change
Smt. Annpurna Devi highlighted the transformative impact of the POSHAN Abhiyaan, India’s flagship nutrition initiative. She noted that targeted interventions in healthcare and nutrition have significantly improved the well-being of women and children, reinforcing health as a cornerstone of empowerment and national development.
Honouring Achievers in Science and Innovation
NCW Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar reaffirmed the Commission’s vision of fostering a safer, healthier, and more equitable society for women. As part of the celebrations, eminent scientists featured in the NCW Calendar 2026 were honoured. Dr. Tessy Thomas, the “Missile Woman of India,” was felicitated for her exemplary leadership in defence science.
Shri V. Kamakoti, Padma Shri awardee and Director of IIT Madras, was recognized for his contributions in developing the AI module for “Tere Mere Sapne,” an NCW initiative aimed at enhancing pre-marital communication and counselling. These recognitions underscore the Commission’s commitment to linking women’s empowerment with science, technology, and innovation.

The 34th Foundation Day reaffirmed NCW’s dedication to advancing women’s rights through health, policy advocacy, innovation, and inclusive partnerships. By prioritizing women’s health and integrating technological innovation, the Commission continues its mission to create a safer, healthier, and more empowered society for Indian women.
