Nitin Nabin Set to Be Elected BJP President on January 20

RR Team, January 14, 2026January 14, 2026
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally initiated the process to elect its national working president, Nitin Nabin, as the next president of the party. The election is scheduled to take place on January 20 in New Delhi, marking a significant leadership transition within India’s largest political organisation.
According to senior party sources, the election process will begin a day earlier with the filing of nominations on January 19. The BJP has asked all Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States, along with State unit presidents and national office-bearers, to be present in the national capital for the crucial organisational exercise.

Structured Nomination Process

The party has laid out a carefully structured nomination process to formalise Mr. Nabin’s elevation. Three separate sets of nominations will be filed in his support, underscoring broad consensus within the BJP’s organisational framework.

The first set of nomination papers will carry the signatures of more than 20 elected BJP State unit presidents. This move is aimed at reflecting strong backing from the party’s grassroots leadership across multiple States.

The second set of nominations will include the signatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and outgoing party president J.P. Nadda. The endorsement from the party’s top leadership is seen as a decisive signal of continuity and stability.

The third and final set will be supported by members of the BJP National Council, completing the formal requirements under the party’s constitution.

Broad-Based Participation from BJP-Ruled States

In a rare show of organisational unity, the BJP has instructed all its top elected executives from BJP-ruled States to attend the event. This includes Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and key national office-bearers.

The presence of leaders such as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with several first-time Chief Ministers from recently won States, is expected to give the election a strong political and symbolic resonance.

Party insiders say the large-scale participation is intended to send a clear message of collective leadership and discipline, which has long been a hallmark of the BJP’s internal functioning.

Nitin Nabin’s Political Journey

Nitin Nabin has emerged as one of the BJP’s key organisational faces in recent years. Known for his administrative skills and close coordination with both the central and state leadership, he has played a significant role in strengthening the party’s internal structure.

As national working president, Mr. Nabin has overseen several organisational reforms, including streamlining State-level coordination, enhancing booth-level management, and expanding the party’s outreach among youth and first-time voters.

His expected elevation comes at a time when the BJP is preparing for a series of crucial State elections and laying the groundwork for the next Lok Sabha polls.

Political Significance Ahead of Key Elections

Political observers view Mr. Nabin’s election as a move towards ensuring leadership continuity ahead of an intense electoral calendar. The BJP’s central leadership is keen on maintaining a strong organisational backbone while aligning closely with Prime Minister Modi’s governance agenda.

The party has repeatedly emphasised discipline, ideological clarity, and grassroots mobilisation as its core strengths. Mr. Nabin’s organisational experience is expected to further reinforce these priorities.

More details regarding the formal announcement and future organisational roadmap are likely to emerge after the January 20 election.
