NTPC WR–I, GCRI Sign MoA to Upgrade Radiotherapy Services

RR Team, January 3, 2026January 3, 2026
In a significant step towards strengthening India’s cancer care infrastructure, NTPC Limited’s Western Region–I Headquarters, Mumbai, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) for the upgradation of radiotherapy services. The initiative, undertaken as part of NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aims to enhance access to advanced and affordable cancer treatment for patients in Gujarat and surrounding regions.
Under the agreement, NTPC has sanctioned financial assistance of ₹23.16 crore for the upgradation of radiotherapy facilities at the Siddhpur Satellite Centre of GCRI in Ahmedabad. The funding will be utilised for the procurement and installation of a high-energy Linear Accelerator (LINAC), a critical technology used in modern cancer treatment to deliver precise and effective radiation therapy.

MoA Signed in Presence of Senior Officials

The MoA was formally exchanged between Dr. Shashank Pandya, Director of Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute, and Shri E. Satya Phani Kumar, Regional Executive Director (West–I), NTPC. The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organisations, reflecting the importance of the collaboration in advancing healthcare delivery.

The event was held in the presence of Shri Akhaya Kumar Patra, General Manager (OS), Shri A. P. Samal, CEO (NPUNL) and CGM (Nuclear), and Smt. Vandana Chaturvedi, Regional Head of Human Resources (West–I). Several other senior officials of NTPC WR–I and members of the CSR team were also present.

Boost to Advanced Cancer Treatment Infrastructure

The installation of a high-energy LINAC at the Siddhpur Satellite Centre is expected to significantly enhance GCRI’s capacity to deliver advanced radiotherapy services. Linear Accelerators are widely recognised for their ability to target tumours with high precision while minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissues.

With the new equipment, the centre will be able to treat a larger number of patients efficiently, reduce waiting times, and improve clinical outcomes. The initiative is particularly significant for patients from rural and semi-urban areas who often face challenges in accessing specialised cancer treatment facilities.

CSR Commitment Towards Inclusive Healthcare

NTPC officials stated that the project reflects the organisation’s long-standing commitment to inclusive development and social responsibility. By investing in critical healthcare infrastructure, NTPC aims to complement government efforts in strengthening the public health system and ensuring equitable access to life-saving medical services.

The collaboration with GCRI underscores NTPC’s focus on impactful CSR initiatives that address pressing social needs. Healthcare, education, sanitation, and skill development remain key focus areas of NTPC’s CSR strategy
across the country.

Strengthening Regional Healthcare Ecosystem

Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute is one of the leading cancer care institutions in India, providing comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services. The Siddhpur Satellite Centre plays a crucial role in extending
these services to patients outside major urban centres.

The upgradation supported by NTPC is expected to strengthen the regional healthcare ecosystem and contribute to improved cancer care outcomes. The initiative also aligns with national health priorities aimed at reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases through early diagnosis and advanced treatment.

Collaborative Approach to Nation-Building

The MoA between NTPC WR–I and GCRI highlights the importance of collaboration between public sector enterprises and premier healthcare institutions in addressing critical societal challenges. Such partnerships play a vital role in bridging infrastructure gaps and ensuring that technological advancements translate into tangible benefits for citizens.

By leveraging its CSR resources for healthcare development, NTPC continues to reinforce its role as a responsible corporate citizen committed to nation-building and social welfare.
