Patna Metro Inaugurated: Blue Line Now Operational

RR Team, October 6, 2025October 7, 2025
Bihar’s capital, Patna, officially joined India’s metro cities on Monday as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the first operational phase of the Patna Metro. The launch marks a significant milestone in urban transport development in the region, promising faster, safer, and eco-friendly travel for commuters.

Blue Line Connects Key Stations

The inaugural stretch, known as the Blue Line, connects the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) to Bhoothnath, passing through three major stations: Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath. Services will operate daily from 8 am to 10 pm, with fares starting at just ₹15, making metro travel accessible to a wide range of passengers.

Inaugural Ceremony and Key Attendees

The first metro run commenced from the Patliputra Bus Depot. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was joined by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with other senior officials. The dignitaries highlighted the project as a transformative step for Patna’s urban mobility and emphasized its potential to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

Modern Infrastructure and Passenger Facilities

The Patna Metro project features modern infrastructure, including advanced signaling systems, automated ticketing, and well-designed commuter facilities. Stations are equipped with escalators, elevators, and digital display boards, ensuring convenience for daily travelers. The metro also incorporates safety measures such as CCTV surveillance, emergency response systems, and regular maintenance protocols.

Impact on Patna’s Urban Landscape

The operational metro is expected to significantly improve public transport efficiency in Patna, reducing dependency on private vehicles and easing city traffic. The introduction of the Blue Line also aligns with the government’s broader urban development initiatives, focusing on sustainable transport solutions and modern infrastructure for India’s rapidly growing cities.

Future Expansion Plans

While the first phase covers the ISBT to Bhoothnath stretch, future expansions are already in the pipeline. The government aims to extend metro connectivity to major residential and commercial hubs, ensuring comprehensive coverage of Patna city. These plans include integration with bus services and other urban transport modes to provide a seamless commuting experience.

Government Support and Citizen Benefits

The Bihar government has emphasized affordability and accessibility, with low fares and frequent services designed to encourage public adoption. Citizens can expect quicker travel times, reduced congestion, and an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional road transport. The metro is projected to benefit thousands of daily commuters and stimulate local economic activity around station hubs.
