Patna’s First Double-Decker Flyover to Open Tomorrow

RR Team, June 10, 2025June 10, 2025

Patna Gears Up for Historic Double-Decker Flyover Inauguration

In a landmark moment for Patna’s urban infrastructure, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to inaugurate the city’s first elevated double-decker flyover on Wednesday. The announcement was made by Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin during a press briefing after an inspection with department secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudakalkatti.

Second of Its Kind in Bihar

This new flyover, located along Ashok Rajpath, is the second double-decker structure in the state after the one being constructed in Chhapra. Developed at a cost of ₹422 crore by the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited, it is now in its final stages of completion.

What Makes It Unique?

This elevated corridor stretches from Science College to Kargil Chowk via PMCH, incorporating three layers of traffic movement— a first for the state capital.

Tier-1 (Lower Deck): 1.45 km from Patna College Main Gate to BN College Main Gate

Tier-2 (Upper Deck): 2.2 km from Kargil Chowk to Science College

Both decks feature 8.5-meter-wide one-way carriageways, ensuring smooth and regulated flow of vehicles.

Enhancing Urban Mobility

According to Minister Nabin, the flyover will significantly decongest traffic on Ashok Rajpath. It will also integrate seamlessly with the ongoing Patna Metro Rail project, the proposed multi-level car parking at PMCH, and JP Ganga Path (riverfront road), offering an alternative route for commuters coming from Gandhi Setu.

Furthermore, 90% of the service road construction has already been completed, ensuring better accessibility and logistics support.

A Smart City Initiative in Motion

This project is a part of Bihar’s broader urban development vision under the Smart City Mission. By synchronizing multiple transport networks, including metro, riverfront roads, and public parking, the flyover reflects a forward-thinking urban planning strategy.

Local Leaders Voice Optimism

Addressing the media, CM Nitish Kumar said the inauguration marks a major milestone in easing Patna’s traffic burden. Minister Nabin added, “With this flyover operational, travel time will be cut drastically, especially for daily commuters and emergency services.”

Looking Ahead

Once open, the Ashok Rajpath double-decker flyover is expected to handle thousands of vehicles daily, providing faster, safer, and more efficient commuting options across Patna. It will also set a blueprint for future infrastructure projects across Bihar.
