Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing
The PLI White Goods Scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on 7 April 2021, aims to bolster India’s domestic manufacturing ecosystem for ACs and LED Lights. By offering incentives ranging from 4–6% on incremental sales for five years, the scheme targets an increase in domestic value addition from 20–25% to 75–80%.
The scheme encourages manufacturing of AC components such as compressors, copper tubes, control assemblies, heat exchangers, BLDC motors, and sheet metal components. For LED Lights, components include LED chips, drivers, engines, light management systems, and metallized films for capacitors, ensuring a robust domestic supply chain.
Future Outlook
Eight additional applicants have been referred to the Committee of Experts (CoE) for detailed examination. The PLI White Goods Scheme is expected to position India as a critical hub in global supply chains, enhance domestic capabilities, and stimulate economic growth through technology-driven manufacturing and job creation.
