PM Modi Greets Nation on 77th Republic Day; VandeMataram150

RR Team, January 26, 2026January 26, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, urging citizens to renew their collective resolve toward building a ‘Viksit Bharat’. The day marks a historic milestone in India’s democratic journey, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Republic Day as a symbol of India’s pride and honour. He said the national festival should infuse fresh energy and enthusiasm among citizens while strengthening the shared commitment to the country’s development goals.

Republic Day: A Pillar of India’s Democratic Identity

Republic Day holds immense constitutional and emotional significance for India. It marks the transition of the nation into a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic governed by the rule of law. The Constitution enshrines the core values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity, which continue to guide the country’s democratic framework.

Observed annually on January 26, the day also honours the sacrifices of freedom fighters and constitutional architects who laid the foundation of modern India after decades of colonial rule.

Grand Celebrations at Kartavya Path

The main Republic Day celebrations are being held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, with President Droupadi Murmu presiding over the ceremonial parade. This year’s event has drawn international attention, with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, attending as Chief Guests.

Kartavya Path, stretching from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the National War Memorial, has been elaborately decorated to reflect India’s cultural diversity, historical legacy, and modern aspirations.

Tribute to Fallen Heroes and Ceremonial Traditions

As per tradition, Prime Minister Modi began the day by visiting the National War Memorial, where he laid a wreath to honour the brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. Following this solemn tribute, he proceeded to the saluting dais to witness the parade alongside other dignitaries.

The arrival of the President of India, escorted by the President’s Bodyguard in the traditional buggy, marked a key ceremonial moment. The unfurling of the National Flag was followed by the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute using indigenously developed 105 mm Light Field Guns.

150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’ Takes Centre Stage

The theme of the 77th Republic Day parade places special emphasis on the 150-year legacy of ‘Vande Mataram’, India’s national song. The celebration highlights how the song has inspired generations during the freedom movement and continues to evoke a deep sense of patriotism.

A total of 30 tableaux—17 from States and Union Territories and 13 from various Ministries and Departments—are part of the parade. The tableaux reflect the dual themes of ‘Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram’ and ‘Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

Showcasing Progress, Strength, and Diversity

The parade offers a vibrant display of India’s rapid development, self-reliance across sectors, and robust defence capabilities. Alongside military contingents, cultural performances highlight the country’s linguistic, artistic, and regional diversity.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the 90-minute ceremony aims to present a balanced narrative of India’s historical roots and its aspirations as a rising global power. Citizens from all walks of life have actively participated in the celebrations.

A Renewed Call for National Unity

As India celebrates its 77th Republic Day, the message from the leadership remains clear: the strength of the nation lies in unity, constitutional values, and collective responsibility. The focus on Viksit Bharat underscores the government’s emphasis on inclusive growth, innovation, and self-reliance.

The Republic Day celebrations serve as a reminder that while India has made remarkable progress, the journey toward fulfilling the Constitution’s promise continues with active citizen participation.
