Massive Infra Push for Varanasi
The foundation stone was laid for numerous projects under the Smart Distribution Project. A major highlight was the launch of the undergrounding of electrical infrastructure to ensure reliable power supply in the city. These upgrades aim to modernize the city’s electrical grid and reduce power outages.
Urban beautification and sustainable development are also part of the plan. The Prime Minister initiated water purification and maintenance works at several Kunds (ancient water bodies), vital to Kashi’s cultural heritage. These efforts align with his vision of blending tradition with technology for holistic development.

Empowering Farmers with PM-KISAN
During the visit, PM Modi also released the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme. Over ₹20,500 crore was transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore farmers across India.
This Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) underlines the government’s commitment to transparency and timely assistance. The PM-Kisan scheme, launched in 2019, offers ₹6,000 annually to small and marginal farmers. With this latest release, total disbursement under the scheme now crosses ₹3.5 lakh crore.
Focus on Education, Health & Tourism
The ₹2,200 crore outlay includes projects in various sectors:
- Education: Upgraded classrooms, smart learning infrastructure, and teacher training centres.
- Healthcare: Foundation stones for new Primary Health Centres and diagnostic labs.
- Tourism: Development of spiritual circuits and upgraded tourist amenities at ghats and temples.
These multi-sector projects aim to make Varanasi a model city for integrated urban growth and cultural revival.
Strengthening Cultural Heritage
PM Modi emphasized preserving Kashi’s soul while driving progress. Restoration works for historical sites and cleaning of sacred water bodies were prominent themes. These projects seek to strike a balance between infrastructure and India’s spiritual identity.
Addressing the public, he stated, “Development must carry the scent of our soil and the stories of our saints. Kashi is not just a city—it is an idea that inspires the world.”
PM Modi’s Message to the Nation
The PM reiterated the government’s focus on farmers, youth, and rural development. He said India’s economic strength lies in villages and agriculture. Swadeshi products and local innovation will power the nation’s journey to becoming a global manufacturing hub.
He also sent a strong message amid ongoing trade tensions with global powers, asserting that “India’s strength lies in self-reliance and its hardworking citizens.”
Public Response and Impact
Public reaction has been largely positive. Local farmers welcomed the PM-Kisan instalment, citing relief amid rising input costs. Urban residents expressed hope that the Smart City projects would ease congestion and improve services.
Political analysts view this as a timely move, especially with upcoming state elections. The visit reaffirms Varanasi’s symbolic role in national politics and development narratives.
Looking Ahead
With this massive investment, Varanasi is poised to become a benchmark for sustainable development rooted in cultural values. The combination of smart urban planning and welfare schemes represents a balanced governance model.
These projects not only elevate infrastructure but also energize public morale. With transparency, inclusivity, and continuity, initiatives like these are helping shape a new India.
