PM Modi Marks World Radio Day, Invites Mann Ki Baat Ideas

RR Team, February 13, 2026February 13, 2026
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked World Radio Day by highlighting the enduring importance of radio as a trusted and influential medium that connects people across India. Emphasizing its unique ability to reach citizens in both remote villages and urban centres, the Prime Minister also invited public suggestions for the upcoming edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, scheduled for February 22.

In his message, the Prime Minister described radio as a powerful communication tool that has played a crucial role in informing, inspiring, and empowering people for generations. He noted that radio continues to serve as a vital link between leaders and citizens, fostering dialogue and strengthening democratic engagement.

Radio Remains a Trusted Voice Across India

Prime Minister Modi said World Radio Day is an opportunity to celebrate a medium that has consistently served as a reliable voice for the people. He emphasized that radio’s reach extends far beyond cities, touching the lives of millions in rural and remote areas where other forms of communication may be limited.

He noted that radio has played a significant role in delivering timely information, promoting creativity, and amplifying grassroots talent. From educational programming to public awareness campaigns, radio has supported national development while preserving cultural diversity.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contributions of broadcasters, technicians, and content creators who ensure that radio continues to remain relevant in the digital era. Their efforts, he said, help maintain radio’s credibility as a medium rooted in public trust.

Mann Ki Baat: Strengthening Citizen Engagement

Reflecting on his own experience, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the impact of Mann Ki Baat in connecting with citizens across the country. Since its launch, the programme has served as a platform to share inspiring stories, discuss social issues, and encourage citizen participation in nation-building.

He said radio has enabled him to directly experience the strength and spirit of Indian society, bringing attention to positive initiatives and achievements at the grassroots level. Through Mann Ki Baat, ordinary citizens have found recognition for their contributions in areas such as innovation, social service, and environmental conservation.

The Prime Minister encouraged people to share their ideas and suggestions for the upcoming broadcast through the official MyGov platform.

He emphasized that public participation strengthens the programme’s purpose of reflecting the voices and aspirations of the nation.

The Continuing Relevance of Radio in the Digital Age

Despite rapid advancements in digital communication, radio continues to hold a unique place in India’s media landscape. Its accessibility, affordability, and wide reach make it an essential source of information, especially during emergencies and public service campaigns.

Radio also plays an important role in promoting community development. Community radio stations across India provide localized content, empowering people with information relevant to their daily lives. These platforms help address regional issues, promote local culture, and encourage public participation.

Government initiatives have also supported the expansion of radio services, recognizing its importance in strengthening communication networks. Radio remains an effective tool for spreading awareness about health, education, agriculture, and government schemes.

World Radio Day: Recognizing a Global Medium

World Radio Day is observed annually on February 13 to recognize radio’s impact as a medium of communication, information, and education. The day celebrates radio’s role in promoting freedom of expression, public dialogue, and access to information.

In India, radio has played a historic role in national development, from independence-era broadcasts to modern-day programmes like Mann Ki Baat. Its ability to bridge geographical and social divides continues to make it a powerful tool for unity and progress.

Encouraging Public Participation for the Next Broadcast

The upcoming Mann Ki Baat programme on February 22 is expected to continue its tradition of highlighting citizen achievements and addressing important social themes. By inviting suggestions, the Prime Minister aims to ensure that the programme reflects the voices and experiences of people across the country.

Citizen participation has been a key feature of the programme, making it a unique example of public engagement through radio. The Prime Minister’s call for suggestions reinforces his commitment to inclusive communication and collaborative governance.

As India continues its journey toward development and innovation, radio remains an enduring symbol of connection and communication. World Radio Day serves as a reminder of the medium’s lasting relevance and its ability to inspire, inform, and empower millions.
