PM Modi Pays Tribute to Kota Srinivas Rao

RR Team, July 14, 2025July 13, 2025

New Delhi, July 14, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of legendary Telugu actor Kota Srinivas Rao Garu. The iconic actor, known for his unmatched screen presence and compelling performances, breathed his last, leaving behind a legacy that spans decades in Indian cinema.

In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister said:

feel deeply anguished over the passing of Shri Kota Srinivas Rao Garu. His cinematic brilliance and versatility touched countless lives as he captivated audiences across generations. Off-screen, he dedicated himself to social service and worked tirelessly to uplift the poor and marginalized. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and countless admirers.

A Towering Figure in Indian Cinema

With a career spanning over four decades and more than 500 films, he carved a niche for himself with his strong character roles, especially in villainous and comic avatars.

His voice, expressions, and timing made him a favorite among directors and fans alike. Whether it was drama, action, or satire—Kota brought unmatched intensity and realism to every role.

Versatility That Shaped Generations

Kota’s performances transcended language and region. From rural stories to urban thrillers, he effortlessly adapted to any role he played. Films like “Aa Naluguru,” “Aha Naa Pellanta,” “Tagore,” “Leader,” and “Baazigar” showcased his versatility and left a lasting impact on Indian audiences.

He also brought critical acclaim to films that focused on social messages and moral dilemmas—often playing the antagonist who sparked change in the protagonist. He won several accolades including Nandi Awards and Filmfare Awards South for his exceptional contributions.

A Heart for Social Service

Beyond the silver screen, Kota Srinivas Rao Garu was deeply committed to public service. He was a strong advocate for the poor and the downtrodden. His efforts to support education and health in underprivileged communities made him a respected figure both on and off screen.

He even served as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) in Andhra Pradesh, using his platform to raise critical issues concerning the common man. His life was a balance of art and activism.

Condolences Pour In Across India

The news of his demise has sent shockwaves through the film fraternity and his vast fan base. Celebrities, politicians, and fans have taken to social media to express their grief and admiration for his life and work.

Veteran actor Chiranjeevi called him “a master craftsman of Indian acting,” while filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli said, “He elevated every scene he was part of. A true legend.”

A Legacy That Will Live On

Kota Srinivas Rao’s contribution to Indian cinema is more than just numbers. He was a storyteller who brought characters to life in a way that touched millions. His death marks the end of an era, but his influence will continue to inspire future generations of actors and artists.

Whether it was a gritty political role, a humorous father-in-law, or a chilling antagonist, Kota Garu made each performance memorable. His artistic integrity and commitment to social good make him a rare gem in Indian cultural history.

Prime Minister’s Tribute Reflects a Nation’s Grief

Prime Minister Modi’s message captures not just personal sorrow but the emotion of an entire nation that has lost one of its cultural icons. The tribute underlines how Kota Srinivas Rao wasn’t just a film star—but a man who stood for values, empathy, and excellence.

As India mourns the loss of this cinematic titan, his life’s work continues to echo in theatres, households, and hearts across the country.

Conclusion: Farewell to a Legend

The demise of Kota Srinivas Rao Garu is a profound loss to Indian cinema and society. He was a multi-dimensional talent—an actor, a public servant, and a compassionate human being. His memory will remain etched in the annals of Indian film history and public service.

May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.
