PM Modi Pays Tribute to Shivaji Maharaj on Jayanti

RR Team, February 19, 2026February 19, 2026

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid heartfelt tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his Jayanti, remembering him as a visionary ruler, brilliant strategist, and fearless champion of Swarajya whose legacy continues to inspire the nation.

In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Shivaji Maharaj as an exceptional administrator and a leader who placed the welfare of his people above everything else. He said the Maratha warrior-king’s courage, governance model, and commitment to justice remain relevant even in modern India.

A Visionary Leader and Guardian of Swarajya

Highlighting the enduring influence of Shivaji Maharaj, Prime Minister Modi stated that the great ruler’s life serves as a guiding light for generations. He said that Shivaji Maharaj’s unwavering dedication to Swarajya and his strategic brilliance transformed the course of Indian history.

The Prime Minister noted that Shivaji Maharaj’s administrative skills and progressive governance continue to inspire policymakers and citizens alike. He emphasised that the warrior-king’s spirit of self-respect and justice strengthens the social fabric of the country even today.

According to official information released by the Press Information Bureau (https://pib.gov.in), the Prime Minister paid homage in both English and Marathi, reflecting the deep cultural reverence associated with the Maratha icon.

Message of Courage and Good Governance

In his message, Prime Minister Modi expressed reverence to Shivaji Maharaj as a visionary statesman and strategic thinker. He said that the ruler’s courage should inspire citizens, his governance should guide leaders, and his commitment to justice and dignity should empower society.

Observers note that Shivaji Maharaj’s governance model, marked by efficient administration, respect for women, religious tolerance, and strong defence strategy, remains widely studied. His establishment of a capable naval force and fortified strongholds showcased his farsighted approach to national security.

The Prime Minister also underlined that Shivaji Maharaj always prioritised the protection and welfare of his subjects. This unwavering dedication, he said, is the reason why Shivaji Maharaj’s life continues to act as a beacon for Bharat across centuries.

Tribute in Marathi and Sanskrit

In addition to his English message, the Prime Minister shared a heartfelt tribute in Marathi, bowing in respect to the “durdarshi nete” (visionary leader) and “swarajyaache puraskarte” (champion of self-rule). The message resonated strongly across Maharashtra and beyond, where Shivaji Maharaj is revered as a symbol of pride and valour.

Quoting a Sanskrit verse in another post, the Prime Minister highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s qualities as a protector, benefactor, and steadfast follower of dharma. The verse reflected the ruler’s selfless character and his commitment to justice without bias or hatred.

Historians and scholars have long regarded Shivaji Maharaj as one of India’s greatest nation-builders. His leadership laid the foundation for the Maratha Empire and redefined concepts of governance and military strategy during the 17th century.

National Inspiration Across Generations

Across India, celebrations marked Shivaji Jayanti with cultural programmes, tributes, and remembrance ceremonies. The Prime Minister’s message added national resonance to the commemorations, reinforcing the importance of historical icons in shaping contemporary values.

Shivaji Maharaj’s emphasis on inclusive governance, swift justice, and ethical leadership continues to inspire young Indians. His life story is taught in schools, discussed in academic circles, and celebrated in literature and cinema.

As India progresses toward becoming a developed nation, leaders often invoke Shivaji Maharaj’s ideals of courage, integrity, and people-centric governance. The Prime Minister’s tribute echoed this sentiment, reminding citizens of the enduring relevance of Swarajya in both spirit and practice.

Legacy That Guides Modern India

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Jayanti serves not only as a remembrance of a historic figure but also as a reaffirmation of national values. His life exemplifies leadership rooted in duty, bravery, and compassion.

With his tribute, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed that Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy remains deeply embedded in India’s collective consciousness. The Maratha warrior-king’s principles of justice, courage, and public welfare continue to guide the nation’s journey forward.
