A Fierce Political Attack in Durgapur
Rape Case and Alleged Cover-Up
The Prime Minister didn’t hold back while discussing the shocking RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case. A young PG doctor was raped and murdered within the premises in August 2024. PM Modi alleged that the TMC government tried to “shield the culprits.”
This comment struck a chord with many attendees, especially in light of Bengal’s ongoing debates around women’s safety and justice delivery.
Respect for Bengali Language and Culture
Modi also addressed cultural issues, claiming that the BJP respects Bengali heritage more than the TMC, Left, or Congress. He pointed out that earlier governments never lobbied for Bengali to be recognised as a classical language, whereas BJP took the initiative.
“Wherever BJP is in power, Bengali culture is respected,” said Modi, seeking to gain emotional connect with regional pride.
Call for Change and Fresh Leadership
Modi urged voters to give the BJP “just one chance” to prove that Bengal deserves better. “Choose a government that is honest, hardworking, and strong,” he emphasized.
The speech echoed his 2014 and 2019 campaigns that centered on development, clean governance, and national pride.
Massive ₹5,400 Crore Boost for Bengal
PM Modi also unveiled ₹5,400 crore worth of infrastructure projects in West Bengal, aiming to improve connectivity and clean energy access.
These include:
- ₹1,950 crore Bharat Petroleum’s City Gas Distribution project in Bankura and Purulia.
- ₹1,190 crore Durgapur–Kolkata natural gas pipeline under Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG).
These initiatives will deliver piped gas to homes, provide CNG fuel to vehicles, and create thousands of local jobs, according to Ramrajya news.com .
Conclusion: Development vs Decay
In his fiery address, PM Modi framed the upcoming elections as a battle between development and decay. His dual message—criticism of governance and announcement of massive projects—aimed to capture both emotional and practical voter sentiments.
With Bengal becoming a political hotspot, Modi’s Durgapur rally marks a clear escalation in BJP’s campaign ahead of 2026 Assembly elections.
