PM Modi Speaks with Oman Sultan on West Asia

RR Team, March 3, 2026March 3, 2026

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman, discussing recent developments in West Asia and reaffirming India’s strong support for Oman’s sovereignty and regional peace.

India Condemns Violation of Oman’s Sovereignty

According to an official release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Prime Minister Modi clearly condemned any violation of Oman’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reiterated that respect for national borders and independence remains fundamental to global stability.

The Prime Minister conveyed India’s solidarity with Oman at a time when tensions in parts of West Asia continue to draw international attention. His remarks reflected New Delhi’s consistent stand on upholding international law and peaceful coexistence.

Emphasis on Sustained Diplomatic Engagement

During the discussion, both leaders agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement is essential for the earliest restoration of peace and stability in the region. Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of dialogue over confrontation.

India has traditionally maintained that constructive diplomatic channels are the most effective means of resolving regional disputes. The exchange with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik reinforced the shared commitment of both nations toward de-escalation and long-term stability.

Oman has long been regarded as a stabilizing voice in the Gulf region, and India’s outreach reflects the importance it places on consultation with trusted regional partners.

Appreciation for Support to Indian Community

A significant part of the conversation focused on the welfare of the Indian community residing in Oman. The Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for the continued support extended by the Omani leadership toward Indian nationals.

Oman hosts a large and vibrant Indian diaspora that plays an important role in sectors such as healthcare, engineering, trade and services. Ensuring their safety and well-being remains a priority for the Government of India.

Strong India-Oman Strategic Partnership

India and Oman share a longstanding strategic partnership rooted in historical trade links and maritime cooperation. Over the years, the two nations have strengthened collaboration in areas such as energy, defense, infrastructure and cultural exchange.

The Prime Minister’s telephonic outreach once again highlights the depth of bilateral relations. Regular high-level engagements between the leadership of both countries have helped maintain stability and mutual trust.

As regional dynamics evolve, India’s diplomatic engagements aim to promote peace while safeguarding national interests and the welfare of its diaspora. The conversation with the Sultan of Oman reflects New Delhi’s balanced and proactive foreign policy approach.

Message Shared on Social Media

Following the call, Prime Minister Modi shared details of the discussion on social media platform X. He reiterated India’s condemnation of any violation of Oman’s sovereignty and stressed the necessity of sustained diplomatic efforts to restore regional peace.

He also conveyed gratitude for Oman’s continued support to the Indian community. The message reaffirmed the close ties between the two nations and India’s commitment to responsible regional engagement.
