PM Modi to Inaugurate SEMICON India 2025 in New Delhi

RR Team, August 23, 2025August 23, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fourth edition of SEMICON India, the country’s biggest semiconductor and electronics show, on 2 September 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The three-day event, scheduled from 2–4 September, will host leaders from 33 nations, over 50 global CXOs, 350 exhibitors, and 50+ visionary speakers, making it the most significant gathering of the semiconductor ecosystem in South Asia.

India’s Semiconductor Momentum

India’s semiconductor journey has been advancing rapidly under the Semicon India Programme. So far, the government has approved 10 key projects in areas like high-volume fabrication units (Fabs), 3D heterogeneous packaging, compound semiconductors including Silicon Carbide (SiC), and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT). These approvals mark a critical step in positioning India as a global player in the semiconductor value chain.

The government is also investing in research and innovation, providing advanced design tools to more than 280 academic institutes and 72 start-ups. Additionally, 23 start-ups have been selected under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, empowering innovators to design chips for applications such as navigation systems, CCTV, communication devices, and motor controllers.

Theme: Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse

This year’s event will focus on “Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse”. The conference will explore emerging trends in Fabs, advanced packaging, smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, supply chain resilience, and workforce development. It will also feature six international roundtables and four country pavilions, offering platforms for global collaboration.

Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), highlighted that SEMICON India 2025 will provide South Asia’s largest platform for showcasing advancements in semiconductors and electronics, with an expected footfall of over 15,000 visitors.

Global Industry Participation

The event will attract participation from major international players including Applied Materials, ASML, IBM, Infineon, KLA, Lam Research, MERCK, Micron, PSMC, Rapidus, Sandisk, Siemens, SK Hynix, Tata Electronics, and Tokyo Electron. Industry leaders are expected to discuss opportunities for India in the global supply chain and ways to build a resilient ecosystem.

Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, stated that SEMICON India 2025 will bring together global expertise to help advance India’s ecosystem expansion and strengthen supply chain resilience. Ashok Chandak, President of SEMI India and IESA, added that India is on the cusp of becoming a semiconductor powerhouse with government policies and private investments finally aligning.

Empowering Future Talent

Alongside business networking and technology showcases, the event will feature a Workforce Development Pavilion to highlight career prospects in microelectronics. This initiative aims to attract new talent to the industry and prepare India’s youth for future opportunities in semiconductor design and manufacturing.

Why SEMICON India Matters

SEMICON India is one of eight annual global expositions hosted by SEMI. For India, the 2025 edition is not just an exhibition but a strategic platform to showcase its progress towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. With its mix of technology showcases, policy dialogues, and global collaborations, the event is expected to accelerate India’s ambitions to emerge as a trusted global hub for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
