Telecom Boost with Indigenous 4G
One of the biggest highlights was the launch of BSNL’s fully indigenous 4G services. Over 97,500 mobile towers, including 92,600 built by BSNL, were commissioned at a cost of ₹37,000 crore. These solar-powered towers will provide connectivity to 26,700 unconnected villages, benefiting around 20 lakh new subscribers. The Prime Minister called this a “historic step” that positions India among the top five countries with indigenous 4G technology.
Railway and Connectivity Projects
Modi flagged off the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Surat and inaugurated key railway projects including the Sambalpur–Sarla rail flyover and doubling of the Koraput–Baiguda line. These projects will strengthen passenger and freight connectivity across Odisha and neighbouring states, boosting local industries and trade.
Education and Skill Development
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for expansion of eight IITs across the country, including an investment of ₹11,000 crore to add capacity for 10,000 new students and establish research parks. He also launched the MERITE scheme to improve research and innovation in 275 engineering and polytechnic institutions, along with the Odisha Skill Development Project Phase II, which will set up new World Skill Centres in Sambalpur and Berhampur.
Healthcare Upgrades
Healthcare infrastructure in Odisha received a major boost with the upgradation of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambalpur into world-class super-speciality hospitals. These projects will add trauma centres, dental colleges, and enhanced maternal and child care services for the people of Odisha.
Housing and Welfare Initiatives
During the event, Modi handed over sanction orders to 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana. Thousands of pucca houses are being built for poor families, Dalits, and tribals. The Prime Minister emphasized that these initiatives are designed to bring dignity and long-term security to the most marginalized communities.
Focus on Self-Reliance
Highlighting India’s resolve for self-reliance, Modi announced two new semiconductor units for Odisha along with plans for a semiconductor park. He also revealed a ₹70,000 crore package for India’s shipbuilding sector, expected to attract ₹4.5 lakh crore in investments and generate millions of jobs.
Tax Relief and GST Reforms
Modi also spoke about the recently introduced GST reforms, which he said will bring significant savings to families and farmers. He explained that reduced GST rates on essentials, agricultural machinery, and construction materials will lower household and farming costs, directly benefiting Odisha’s people.
“Our government is committed to empowering the poor, Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities. These projects are a reflection of that commitment,” the Prime Minister concluded, extending his best wishes to the people of Odisha.
