PM Modi Welcomes Nine New Amrit Bharat Express Trains

RR Team, January 14, 2026January 14, 2026
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in enhancing passenger comfort and rail connectivity across India. The Prime Minister said the new services would not only improve travel experience but also contribute to economic growth by boosting commerce and tourism.
The remarks came in response to a social media thread posted on X by Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw. The thread detailed plans to flag off nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains on various routes, further expanding the country’s network of modern passenger trains.

PM Highlights Broader Impact of New Trains

Responding to the Railway Minister’s post, Prime Minister Modi underlined the wider benefits of the Amrit Bharat Express services. He noted that apart from improving passenger comfort and connectivity, the new trains would also play an important role in strengthening trade and tourism across regions.

“The new Amrit Bharat trains mark a significant step in improving passenger comfort and connectivity. Other benefits include boosting commerce and tourism,” the Prime Minister said in his post on X. His comments reflect the government’s broader vision of using modern rail infrastructure as a catalyst for inclusive economic development.

The Prime Minister has consistently emphasised the importance of railways in India’s growth story, calling them the lifeline of the nation. The latest announcement aligns with ongoing efforts to modernise railway services while making travel more accessible and efficient for millions of passengers.

Railways Minister Announces Expanded Network

Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains will soon be flagged off on multiple routes across the country. According to him, the new services will significantly expand the reach of these modern trains and strengthen inter-state connectivity.

The routes announced cover a wide geographical spread, linking eastern, northern, southern and western regions of India. One of the key highlights is the improved connectivity between Assam and states such as Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, which is expected to benefit passengers from the Northeast.

In addition, multiple new routes will connect West Bengal with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. This extensive network is aimed at bridging long-distance travel gaps and providing reliable, affordable and comfortable rail options for passengers.

What Makes Amrit Bharat Express Trains Different

The Amrit Bharat Express is part of Indian Railways’ push to introduce next-generation passenger trains focused on safety, comfort and efficiency. These trains are designed to offer improved seating, better amenities and enhanced travel experience compared to conventional long-distance trains.

By focusing on both passenger convenience and operational efficiency, the Amrit Bharat Express services are expected to reduce travel fatigue and make long journeys more comfortable. The initiative is also seen as a step towards standardising modern train services across the country.

Officials believe that improved rail connectivity through such trains can have a multiplier effect on local economies by facilitating easier movement of people, goods and services.

Boost to Commerce and Tourism

Improved rail connectivity is widely regarded as a key driver of regional development. With the introduction of nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains, trade hubs, tourist destinations and emerging cities are expected to see increased movement of people and goods.

Tourism-dependent regions, in particular, are likely to benefit from faster and more comfortable train services. Easier access between states can encourage domestic tourism, promote cultural exchange and support local businesses.

The government has repeatedly stated that investments in railway infrastructure are central to achieving balanced regional growth. The latest expansion of Amrit Bharat Express services reinforces this commitment.
