PM Narendra Modi Embarks on Multi-State Visit to Boost Infrastructure and Celebrate Sikkim’s 50 Years of Progress

RR Team, May 28, 2025May 29, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant two-day visit across four Indian states—Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh—on May 29 and 30, reflecting his government’s deep commitment to inclusive development and regional empowerment. The visit will see the Prime Minister laying foundation stones, inaugurating key infrastructure projects, and participating in landmark events aimed at accelerating growth and improving lives across these diverse regions.

In Sikkim, as the state proudly marks 50 years of its statehood, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the celebration titled “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth.” Emphasizing the state’s journey of harmony between modern progress and environmental preservation, the event will also witness the Prime Minister inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for several important development projects. These include a 500-bedded district hospital in Namchi, a ropeway at Pelling, and the unveiling of a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He will also release commemorative items honoring Sikkim’s rich legacy, including a special coin, souvenir, and stamp.

Continuing his journey, the Prime Minister will reach Alipurduar in West Bengal to lay the foundation stone for a City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. This project, worth over ₹1,010 crore, promises to bring piped and compressed natural gas to thousands of households and industries in the region, supporting clean energy use and creating new jobs.

Later the same day, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the new terminal at Patna Airport in Bihar, built at a cost of ₹1,200 crore to handle up to one crore passengers annually. He will also lay the foundation stone for a new civil enclave at Bihta Airport, a vital infrastructure boost for a growing educational and economic hub.

On May 30, the Prime Minister will unveil an ambitious ₹48,520 crore worth of development projects in Karakat, Bihar. A major highlight will be the foundation stone laying for Stage-II of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Aurangabad. The power plant, valued at over ₹29,930 crore, aims to significantly boost electricity supply across Bihar and eastern India. Complementing this are a series of critical road and rail infrastructure initiatives, including major national highway projects and rail connectivity upgrades to promote trade and regional development.

The final leg of the visit will bring the Prime Minister to Kanpur Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. Here, he will launch infrastructure and public utility projects totaling approximately ₹20,900 crore. Among the key developments are the inauguration of a vital section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, a 660 MW Panki Thermal Power Extension Project, and significant upgrades to Greater Noida’s electricity grid. The launch of multiple railway overbridges, a modern sewage treatment facility, and new road projects in the Defence Corridor reflect a comprehensive approach to urban planning and sustainable growth.

In a gesture of welfare and support, Prime Minister Modi will also interact with beneficiaries of schemes like PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, the National Livelihood Mission, and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, underscoring the government’s commitment to social security and grassroots upliftment.

Through this extensive tour, the Prime Minister is not just inaugurating infrastructure but reaffirming the vision of a Viksit Bharat—an India where progress touches every corner and every citizen is empowered to lead a better life.
