PM Welcome Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan Amid Hostage Release Talk

RR Team, October 4, 2025October 4, 2025
New Delhi, October 4, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership in steering decisive progress toward peace in Gaza, as reports indicate that Hamas may soon release Israeli hostages. Modi’s remarks came amid growing optimism that the long-running conflict in the region could see a breakthrough after months of diplomatic stagnation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “India welcomes U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress. India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace.”

The Prime Minister’s statement follows emerging reports that Hamas has agreed to certain aspects of President Trump’s proposed peace plan. The militant group has reportedly signaled willingness to release Israeli hostages taken during the October 7, 2023, attack and to transfer administrative control to other Palestinian factions.

Trump Pushes for Ceasefire, Israel Asked to Halt Airstrikes

According to U.S. media reports, President Trump has ordered Israel to suspend its ongoing airstrikes in Gaza to allow peace negotiations to move forward. His office confirmed that discussions are underway with both Israeli and Palestinian intermediaries to implement a phased plan aimed at ending the nearly two-year conflict.

The plan reportedly focuses on three main pillars — the release of all hostages, cessation of hostilities, and the establishment of a joint Palestinian transitional authority. Hamas has accepted some elements of the proposal, but internal consultations among Palestinian factions are still ongoing before a formal announcement.

“We are willing to release the hostages and discuss power-sharing with other Palestinian groups,” a Hamas representative said, adding that the group seeks guarantees of security and humanitarian access for civilians in Gaza.

India Reiterates Support for Peaceful Resolution

India has consistently maintained its position advocating a two-state solution, emphasizing peaceful dialogue and mutual recognition between Israel and Palestine. Modi’s endorsement of the current peace efforts aligns with New Delhi’s long-standing call for stability and reconstruction in Gaza.

External Affairs Ministry officials noted that India continues to provide humanitarian assistance to Gaza and supports all initiatives that promote long-term regional peace. “India stands with all partners working towards lasting peace and the protection of human rights in the region,” an official statement added.

Experts believe Modi’s public support for Trump’s peace initiative signals India’s growing diplomatic engagement in Middle Eastern affairs, reflecting its balanced ties with both Israel and the Arab world.

Hope for a Breakthrough After Years of Conflict

The Gaza conflict, which reignited in 2023 following the Hamas attack on Israel, has resulted in significant loss of life and large-scale displacement. Over the past two years, several international mediation attempts — including by Egypt, Qatar, and the United Nations — have failed to produce a sustained ceasefire.

Analysts say the current talks hold promise, as both sides appear to recognize the high human and economic costs of continued fighting. If Hamas releases the hostages and power transitions peacefully, it could pave the way for reconstruction and regional normalization efforts.

“This could be the first real opportunity for peace since 2023,” said a Middle East analyst quoted. “However, sustaining the agreement will require mutual restraint and strong international oversight.”

Global Reactions and the Road Ahead

Several world leaders, including those from the European Union and the United Nations, have welcomed the latest developments, calling it a “turning point” for the region. The White House has confirmed that further discussions are scheduled next week in Washington with Israeli and Palestinian delegates.

For India, peace in the Middle East is not just a matter of diplomacy but also of economic and security interest, given the presence of millions of Indian workers in the Gulf and its energy dependencies. New Delhi is expected to continue engaging with all key stakeholders to promote humanitarian aid and post-conflict reconstruction once hostilities formally end.

As PM Modi put it, “Lasting peace in Gaza will contribute to global stability and the collective pursuit of human progress.”
