President Smt. Droupadi Murmu attended a mass wedding ceremony in Gadha, Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, organized by Shri Bageshwar Jan Seva Samiti. The event, marked by a spirit of unity and social responsibility, provided a dignified beginning to the married lives of several couples, emphasizing the importance of collective support in fostering strong communities.
Speaking to the gathering, the President highlighted the country’s transition from women’s development to women-led development, urging society to play an active role in empowering daughters and sisters. She stressed the need to prioritize women’s education, health, and safety, emphasizing that even small efforts could lead to significant change. Encouraging women to take charge of their own progress, she called on them to continuously pursue education and self-reliance.
Reflecting on India’s rich spiritual and social traditions, the President noted that saints have long guided society by challenging social evils and advocating for equality. She recalled the teachings of revered figures such as Guru Nanak, Sant Ravidas, Sant Kabir Das, Meera Bai, and Sant Tukaram, all of whom stood against discrimination and injustice. Their messages of harmony and righteousness, she said, have earned them a place of deep respect in Indian society.
She further emphasized the role contemporary spiritual leaders can play in shaping a self-reliant, inclusive, and environmentally conscious India. By inspiring people through their teachings and actions, they can contribute to a nation where social progress is deeply rooted in cultural and ethical values. The mass wedding ceremony, beyond being a celebration of new beginnings, stood as a testament to the power of community-driven efforts in promoting equality and shared prosperity.
