President Murmu Greets Nation on Guru Ravidas Jayanti

RR Team, January 31, 2026January 31, 2026
President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu on Friday extended heartfelt greetings to citizens on the eve of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas Ji, remembering the revered saint’s timeless contribution to social harmony, equality and moral awakening. In her message, the President urged people to draw inspiration from Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings and actively incorporate his values into daily life.
The greetings were issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan and later shared by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), underscoring the continued relevance of Guru Ravidas Ji’s philosophy in contemporary India.

President Highlights Guru Ravidas Ji’s Teachings

In her message, President Murmu described Guru Ravidas Ji as a revered saint and a transformative social reformer who dedicated his life to challenging discrimination rooted in caste and religious divisions. She emphasised that his teachings conveyed powerful messages of equality, social justice and universal love.

“By following the path of simplicity and moral discipline, Guru Ravidas Ji worked tirelessly to eliminate discrimination based on caste and religion,” the President noted, reflecting on the saint’s lifelong commitment to social reform.

Enduring Relevance in Modern India

The President underlined that Guru Ravidas Ji’s thoughts remain profoundly relevant even today, especially at a time when society faces challenges related to inequality, intolerance and social fragmentation. She said his vision continues to guide India toward embracing core human values such as compassion, dignity and mutual respect.

Calling upon citizens to internalise these ideals, President Murmu urged people to integrate Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings into their personal and collective lives, adding that such efforts would strengthen the nation’s moral and social fabric.

Legacy of a Social Reformer

Guru Ravidas Ji, a prominent figure of the Bhakti movement, is revered for advocating a society based on equality and spiritual unity. His devotional poetry and philosophical insights rejected social hierarchies and promoted the idea that all human beings are equal before the divine.

His vision of a just and inclusive society resonated across generations and influenced social reform movements in different parts of the country. Even today, his teachings form the spiritual foundation for millions who seek dignity and justice.

Nationwide Observances

Guru Ravidas Jayanti is observed with devotion across several states, particularly in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and parts of Haryana. Devotees organise prayer meetings, processions and community service activities to commemorate the saint’s birth anniversary.

The occasion also serves as a reminder of India’s rich spiritual heritage and its long tradition of reformers who challenged injustice through non-violence, faith and ethical living.

Call for Nation-Building

Concluding her message, President Murmu called upon citizens to actively contribute to nation-building by upholding the values championed by Guru Ravidas Ji. She stressed that social harmony and equality are essential pillars for India’s progress as a democratic nation.

Her message echoed the constitutional vision of an inclusive India, reinforcing the idea that spiritual wisdom and social responsibility must go hand in hand.
