Railways Upgrade 30 Stations for Chhath Fest Rush

RR Team, October 28, 2025October 27, 2025
New Delhi, October 28, 2025: The Indian Railways has made extensive preparations to handle the surge of festive travellers during the Chhath Puja season. Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that over 12,000 special trains have been deployed to ease travel for the massive number of passengers returning home to celebrate the festival.
According to the Minister, more than 1.6 crore passengers have already travelled through these special trains, with a similar number expected during return journeys after the Chhath festivities. These additional services have been strategically planned to complement regular train operations and ensure passenger comfort, safety, and punctuality.

Special Arrangements at 30 Stations in Bihar and UP

To manage the heavy rush, Indian Railways has set up dedicated holding areas at 30 key stations in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, particularly in regions like Patna, Muzaffarpur, Chhapra, Siwan, Ballia, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi. These facilities have been designed to allow passengers to wait comfortably and board their trains in an organised manner, preventing overcrowding and ensuring smooth movement.

The Railway Ministry has also strengthened passenger amenities at major stations, introducing CCTV monitoring, handheld Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), improved signage, and efficient crowd management systems. These measures have been instrumental in maintaining order and enhancing the travel experience during the peak festive season.

Technology and Teamwork Driving Festive Operations

Minister Vaishnaw commended the dedicated efforts of railway staff and the use of smart technology in managing the festive surge. “Our teams are working round-the-clock to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for every passenger,” he said. The integration of data-driven crowd analytics and on-ground coordination has enabled real-time monitoring of passenger flow.

Officials have also deployed additional cleaning and sanitation teams to maintain hygiene and cleanliness across railway stations and coaches, aligning with the government’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Passengers Appreciate Improved Travel Experience

Travellers from across India have expressed their satisfaction with the enhanced railway services this season. Passengers at New Delhi Railway Station praised the improved cleanliness and efficient boarding systems. At Hubballi Junction, many said the special trains had made it easier to secure confirmed tickets for long-distance travel.

In Bhagalpur and Chhapra, passengers highlighted the festive atmosphere created by Chhath songs playing at stations, while those in Pune appreciated the well-organised seating and drinking water arrangements in the holding areas. Commuters at Raipur and Anand Vihar Terminal also lauded the smooth queuing and coordinated boarding experience.

Railways’ Continued Commitment to Passenger Service

With its vast network and workforce of over a million employees, Indian Railways continues to serve as the backbone of India’s public transport. By focusing on safety, punctuality, cleanliness, and passenger convenience, the Railways has reaffirmed its commitment to providing a reliable and enjoyable travel experience during the nation’s busiest festive season.

Minister Vaishnaw extended warm greetings to citizens celebrating Chhath Puja and assured that Indian Railways will continue to strengthen its service standards and adopt innovative measures for passenger welfare.
