This significant event continues India’s tradition of inviting global leaders to mark its national celebrations. Over the years, the country has welcomed a diverse array of dignitaries, including Queen Elizabeth II, the Governor General of Pakistan, and representatives from the Soviet Union, underscoring its strong diplomatic engagements.
However, 2021 marked an exception in this tradition when, for the first time in decades, India did not host a Head of State or Government for the Republic Day parade. This deviation was primarily attributed to the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Subianto’s visit reflects the deepening bilateral ties between India and Indonesia, two nations with shared cultural and economic interests. His presence is expected to add a new chapter to the history of India’s Republic Day celebrations.
