SECL, Sri Sathya Sai Trust Set Up ₹35 Cr Healthcare Skill Centre

RR Team, January 8, 2026January 9, 2026
In a major boost to healthcare education and youth skill development in central India, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Sri Sathya Sai Health & Education Trust to set up a state-of-the-art Healthcare Skill Development Centre at Nava Raipur in Chhattisgarh. The initiative, supported through SECL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, involves a financial outlay of ₹35.04 crore.
The proposed institute aims to provide free, job-oriented healthcare training to socio-economically disadvantaged youth, particularly from coal belt regions of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The project is designed to address both employment generation and the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in underserved areas.

Free Skill-Based Training for Coal Belt Youth

The Healthcare Skill Development Centre will offer structured training programmes in key healthcare domains such as nursing assistants, medical technicians, and allied healthcare professions. These courses will be aligned with industry requirements to ensure that trainees are job-ready upon completion.

A key feature of the initiative is that all training will be provided free of cost, ensuring access for youth from economically weaker sections. By focusing on employability-driven skills, the centre aims to create a steady pool of trained healthcare workers who can support hospitals, clinics, and public health systems.

Modern Campus and Long-Term Commitment

The campus at Nava Raipur will include academic blocks, hostels for trainees, residential facilities for staff, and other allied infrastructure required for a modern training institute. The facility is envisioned as a comprehensive learning environment that supports both theoretical instruction and practical exposure.

As part of SECL’s long-term commitment, preference will be given to candidates from districts where the company operates. At least 20 per cent of the annual intake will be reserved for youth from SECL’s operational districts for a period of 25 years, with the possibility of extension based on performance and outcomes.

MoU Signed in Presence of Senior Officials

The MoU was signed in the presence of Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources), SECL. The agreement was formally executed by C. M. Verma, General Manager (CSR), SECL, and Vivek Narayan Gour, Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Health & Education Trust.

Senior officials from SECL highlighted that the partnership reflects the company’s broader vision of integrating skill development with community welfare, particularly in regions impacted by mining and industrial activity.

Building on a Proven Healthcare Partnership

SECL and the Sri Sathya Sai Health & Education Trust already share a strong partnership under SECL’s flagship healthcare initiative, ‘SECL Ki Dhadkan’. The programme focuses on providing free corrective surgeries to children suffering from congenital heart disease (CHD).

Under this initiative, more than 180 life-saving surgeries have been successfully conducted, significantly improving access to advanced healthcare for underprivileged families in coalfield regions. The new skill development centre is expected to further deepen the social impact of this collaboration.

SECL’s Expanding CSR Footprint

SECL has emerged as a major catalyst for social development in its areas of operation across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. Over the years, the company has spent more than ₹850 crore on CSR initiatives covering healthcare, education, skill development, infrastructure, and community welfare.

With the establishment of the Healthcare Skill Development Centre, SECL reinforces its commitment to inclusive growth, capacity building, and sustainable development, aligning its CSR efforts with national priorities in healthcare and human resource development.
