Shivraj Singh Approves ₹13,890 Cr Crop Buy in UP & Gujarat

RR Team, September 24, 2025
Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the procurement of major pulses and oilseeds in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat for the Kharif 2025–26 season, amounting to ₹13,890.60 crore. The approval ensures 100% procurement of urad and tur from farmers and includes moong, sesame, and groundnut in Uttar Pradesh, and soybean, moong, and groundnut in Gujarat.
Shri Chouhan, in a virtual meeting chaired today with UP Agriculture Minister Shri Surya Pratap Shahi and Gujarat Agriculture Minister Shri Raghavji Patel, emphasized that the procurement process must be digital, transparent, and smooth to safeguard farmers’ interests. Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi and senior officials from both state governments also attended the meeting.

Procurement Details in Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh, 2,27,860 metric tonnes of urad worth ₹1,777.30 crore and 1,13,780 metric tonnes of tur valued at ₹910.24 crore will be procured. Additionally, 1,983 metric tonnes of moong (₹17.38 crore), 30,410 metric tonnes of sesame (₹299.42 crore), and 99,438 metric tonnes of groundnut (₹722.22 crore) will be purchased. Shri Chouhan directed that Aadhaar-based biometric authentication and POS machines, totaling 350, be deployed at procurement centres to ensure only genuine farmers benefit.

Procurement Details in Gujarat

For Gujarat, the approved procurement includes 47,780 metric tonnes of urad (₹372.68 crore), 1,09,905 metric tonnes of soybean (₹585.57 crore), 12,62,163 metric tonnes of groundnut (₹9,167.08 crore), and 4,415 metric tonnes of moong (₹38.71 crore). Approximately 400 biometric-enabled procurement centres will ensure transparency, with registered farmers able to sell at MSP via the e-Samriddhi and e-Samyukti portals, guaranteeing direct payments into bank accounts.

Transparent and Digital Procurement System

Shri Chouhan underlined that the digital system will prevent middlemen from taking advantage, ensuring all eligible farmers receive timely payments at government-notified prices. Pre-registration through NAFED and NCCF portals will verify genuine farmers, while biometric and facial authentication at POS-enabled centres will streamline operations.

The Union Minister also noted that approved quantities may be revised after the first advance estimates of Kharif 2025–26, maximizing benefits for farmers. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to farmer welfare, transparent governance, and effective market support for agriculture.
