New Delhi, February 19: President of the Slovak Republic H.E. Mr. Peter Pellegrini met President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, reaffirming the growing strength of India–Slovakia relations. The discussions centred on artificial intelligence (AI), digital cooperation, trade expansion, and broader strategic engagement.
According to the official statement released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explored new avenues of cooperation.
AI Impact Summit Takes Centre Stage
Artificial Intelligence featured prominently in the discussions. President Murmu thanked President Pellegrini for his participation in the AI Impact Summit, describing it as a defining moment for India and the global community.
She noted that the Summit is guided by the principles of “People, Planet, and Progress,” envisioning a future where AI serves humanity and promotes inclusive growth. India’s approach, she said, is firmly rooted in the idea of “technology for public good.”
India has positioned itself as a leader in responsible and inclusive digital transformation. Through initiatives under the Digital India programme, the country has focused on ensuring that technological advancements reach the grassroots level.
President Murmu underlined that India and Slovakia can collaborate meaningfully in AI and digital technologies. She stressed that joint efforts in these sectors could contribute not only to bilateral growth but also to global technological governance.
Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
The meeting also reviewed the progress in India–Slovakia ties across trade, investment, science and technology, defence cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. President Murmu observed that bilateral relations have gained renewed momentum in recent years, supported by sustained diplomatic engagement.
She pointed out that economic cooperation remains a key pillar of the partnership. With both countries seeking to diversify trade and strengthen innovation ecosystems, there is significant potential for collaboration in manufacturing, research, and emerging technologies.
Defence cooperation and scientific collaboration were also highlighted as important areas of engagement. The two leaders acknowledged that steady growth in these sectors reflects the maturing nature of bilateral ties.
Shared Vision for Digital Future
President Murmu emphasized that digital cooperation could become a defining feature of India–Slovakia relations in the coming years. She said that collaboration in cybersecurity, AI ethics, and digital governance frameworks would be particularly valuable in an increasingly interconnected world.
President Pellegrini’s participation in the AI Impact Summit was viewed as a strong signal of Slovakia’s commitment to shaping responsible AI ecosystems. Both leaders agreed that emerging technologies must be deployed in ways that enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.
The dialogue reflected a shared belief that technology should empower citizens and support sustainable development goals. By pooling expertise and innovation capabilities, India and Slovakia can create impactful partnerships in digital public infrastructure and advanced research.
High-Level Exchanges Strengthen Ties
The two Presidents expressed satisfaction over the growing frequency of high-level visits and official engagements. President Murmu noted that such exchanges inject fresh energy into bilateral cooperation and provide direction for future initiatives.
They agreed that President Pellegrini’s visit would add new impetus to the evolving partnership between India and the Slovak Republic. In particular, digital cooperation and AI collaboration are expected to open new dimensions in the relationship.
As India continues to expand its engagement with European partners, Slovakia remains an important interlocutor in Central Europe. The meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan reinforced the commitment of both sides to build a forward-looking, technology-driven partnership.
The discussions concluded on a note of optimism, with both leaders expressing confidence that India–Slovakia relations will continue to deepen across multiple sectors in the years ahead.
