Smart Energy, Safe Nation: CEA Leads Safety Drive
Theme: Smart Energy, Safe Nation
This year’s theme, “Smart Energy, Safe Nation”, emphasized the critical need for safety in emerging technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, and rooftop solar systems. As India expands its power ecosystem, safety must evolve with it.
Ministerial Inauguration and Key Launches
Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, inaugurated the event. He launched the official Electrical Safety Mascot “Suraksha Shakti” and unveiled the first Electrical Safety Handbook.
In his address, the Minister stressed, “Electricity empowers lives, but it must be handled responsibly. As we build smart systems like EV charging and rooftop solar, safety must stay central.”
Senior officials like Shri Pankaj Agarwal (Secretary, Ministry of Power), Shri Ghanshyam Prasad (Chairperson, CEA), and Shri Amal Sinha (CEO, BSES) highlighted the need for institutionalizing a proactive safety culture.
Overwhelming Participation
More than 300 delegates joined in-person, including officials from utilities, regulatory bodies, OEMs, RWAs, prosumers, and field technicians. The event garnered over 25,000 live webcast views in just 22 hours on YouTube.
Safety Mascot & Handbook
“Suraksha Shakti”, the new safety mascot, was created to make awareness relatable. The Electrical Safety Handbook, co-developed by CEA and BSES, provides actionable guidance on handling BESS, rooftop solar, and EV setups safely.
It includes do’s and don’ts for consumers, utilities, and technicians to prevent electrical shocks, fire hazards, and accidental injuries.
Interactive Learning & Outreach
The event featured technical sessions by CEA, NPTI, and industry leaders, covering topics like earthing solutions and digital fault detection. A ventriloquism act by Sh. Satyajit Padhye helped simplify complex concepts for the general audience.
Post-event, a week-long safety campaign will roll out across India with pledge ceremonies, school programs, and wider dissemination of safety best practices.
Way Forward
As India marches towards energy independence with smart grids and decentralised systems, safety must remain non-negotiable. The Electrical Safety Day 2025 is a critical milestone in ensuring that every advancement in energy is grounded in caution, care, and resilience.
CEA’s initiative is a testament to the collaborative effort between the government, industry, and citizens in building a truly Safe and Smart India.
