Rice Area Remains Steady
Rice continues to occupy a significant share of summer cropping, with 17.78 lakh hectare covered so far. The area under rice cultivation remains unchanged compared to the same period in 2025.
The normal summer area for rice stands at 31.49 lakh hectare, while the final summer area recorded in 2025 was 33.28 lakh hectare. Current sowing trends suggest stable participation by farmers in rice cultivation.
Pulses Register Moderate Growth
Pulses have shown a marginal increase this season, reaching 0.91 lakh hectare compared to 0.76 lakh hectare during the corresponding period last year. This marks an increase of 0.15 lakh hectare.
Among pulses, greengram leads with 0.59 lakh hectare, followed by blackgram at 0.25 lakh hectare. Both crops have recorded slight improvements over last year’s figures, indicating growing interest among farmers.
Coarse Cereals and Shree Anna Gain Traction
Shree Anna and coarse cereals have covered 1.38 lakh hectare this season, up from 1.08 lakh hectare last year. The category includes jowar, bajra, ragi, small millets and maize.
Maize accounts for the largest share within this group at 1.06 lakh hectare, showing an increase over the previous year. Ragi and jowar have also recorded improvements, while bajra shows a slight dip compared to last year.
Oilseeds See Significant Jump
Oilseeds have registered one of the strongest gains this season, with area coverage reaching 1.24 lakh hectare compared to 0.77 lakh hectare last year. This reflects an increase of 0.46 lakh hectare.

Overall Trend and Outlook
The total normal summer area, based on averages from 2022-23 to 2024-25, stands at 75.37 lakh hectare. In 2025, the final summer area reached 83.92 lakh hectare.
With 21.30 lakh hectare already covered in the current season, the data signals positive momentum in agricultural activities. The incremental rise over last year’s 20.38 lakh hectare suggests improved participation across key crop categories.
As the summer season progresses, further expansion in sowing area is expected, depending on irrigation availability and regional agricultural conditions. The current figures reflect steady confidence among farmers as they prepare for the upcoming harvest cycle.
