IELTS Training Handbook for Persons with Disabilities
The first major initiative was the launch of the IELTS Training Handbook for Persons with Disabilities, developed by Believe in the Invisible (BITI) with support from DEPwD. Authored by Anjali Vyas, British Council–certified IELTS Trainer and BITI co-founder, this handbook is a first-of-its-kind inclusive resource designed to make IELTS preparation accessible and learner-friendly for PwDs.
The handbook offers structured guidance for visual, hearing, locomotor, and other disabilities, including step-by-step instructions, skill-building activities, adapted practice materials, lesson plans, exam strategies, and ISL video links. It serves both as a self-study guide for learners and a teaching manual for trainers, promoting equal opportunities in global language proficiency training.
ISLRTC Certification and Skill Courses
The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), New Delhi, announced the successful completion of its first Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – Certification in ISL Interpretation (CISLI) / Skill Course for SODA (Siblings of Deaf Adults) and CODA (Children of Deaf Adults). Conducted offline from 11th to 29th August 2025, 17 candidates from across India completed the program and will receive certificates on 3rd December 2025, International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
ISLRTC also unveiled a Specialized Basic Training Programme introducing American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) for ISL professionals. The month-long program, commencing 3rd December 2025, will enhance interpreters’ international skills and foster cross-cultural exchange.
Creating an Inclusive Learning Ecosystem
These three initiatives collectively reflect a unified vision to create accessible, inclusive, and empowering pathways for persons with disabilities. From accessible IELTS preparation to certified ISL training and exposure to international sign languages, the efforts underscore the Government of India’s commitment to barrier-free learning, skill development, and global participation for PwDs.
The launches at International Purple Fest 2025 mark a significant step toward inclusive education and skill-building, providing PwDs with the tools to thrive academically, professionally, and socially. Officials highlighted the importance of such initiatives in aligning national programs with global accessibility standards and ensuring equitable opportunities for all.
