Scope and Methodology of the Drive Test
TRAI’s Regional Office in Jaipur, through an appointed agency, conducted extensive drive tests covering 412 kilometers of city roads and 14 hotspot locations. A 2-kilometer walk test was also carried out during 3–7 November 2025, encompassing the Surat Local Service Area (LSA) including Diamond Nagar, Ambaba Commerce College, Transport Nagar, Dindoli, Udhna, Bhestan, Sachin INA, Vesu, Adajan Gam, Rander, Katargam, Mota Varachha, and several other key locations.
Advanced test handsets were used to capture live data, which was monitored and analyzed in real time using sophisticated software systems. This ensured that the assessment reflected the actual quality of mobile services experienced by consumers in the field.
Key Findings – Voice Services
The IDT results for 3G and 2G voice services showed notable variations among providers. Airtel and Vi (Vodafone Idea Limited) achieved a 100% call setup success rate, while BSNL registered 92.82%. Call drop rates ranged from 0% for Airtel and Vi to 4.1% for BSNL. Average call setup times were lowest for RJIL (0.56 seconds), while the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) for speech quality was highest for Vi at 4.48, indicating superior voice clarity.
Key Findings – Data Services
In terms of data services, Airtel recorded an average download speed of 149.11 Mbps and upload speed of 39.01 Mbps. RJIL led with 279.36 Mbps download and 46.54 Mbps upload, whereas BSNL lagged with 4.83 Mbps download and 6.60 Mbps upload. Latency, measured at the 50th percentile, was lowest for Vi (21.36 ms) and RJIL (22.74 ms), reflecting faster response times for internet services.
Implications for Consumers and Service Providers
The IDT findings have been shared with all respective TSPs to enable corrective action where necessary. This transparent reporting helps consumers make informed decisions about mobile services and encourages telecom operators to enhance network performance, contributing to a more reliable and competitive market.
