Vice-President Stresses Role of Education in Nation-Building at CMRIT

RR Team, January 21, 2026January 21, 2026
The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, on Tuesday underscored the critical role of educational institutions in shaping India’s future, stating that universities and technical institutes are central to nation-building and self-reliance. He was addressing the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT) in Bengaluru as the Chief Guest.
Congratulating the institute on completing 25 years of service in technical education, the Vice-President described the Silver Jubilee as more than a milestone, calling it a celebration of vision, perseverance and purpose. He praised CMRIT for staying true to its founding philosophy of producing not just skilled professionals, but also responsible citizens and ethical leaders.

Recognition of Academic Excellence

The Vice-President expressed satisfaction over CMR Institute of Technology receiving the highest A++ grade accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). He said such recognition reflects sustained commitment to academic excellence, institutional integrity and quality education.

During the event, he inaugurated the institute’s new Incubation Centre and Auditorium, describing these facilities as essential for fostering innovation, collaboration and creative thinking among students and faculty members.

Strengthening Faculty Key to Better Rankings

Drawing from his experience as a former Governor, the Vice-President highlighted the importance of improving the quality and grading of educational institutions across the country. He noted that poor institutional rankings often stem from vacant faculty positions and inadequate academic staffing.

He emphasised that strengthening faculty capacity directly improves teaching standards, research output and public trust. According to him, investment in educators is the foundation upon which globally competitive institutions are built.

Message to Students: Focus, Patience and Hard Work

Addressing students, Shri Radhakrishnan urged them to set clear goals and progress towards them at their own pace, without comparing their journeys with others. He cautioned that constant comparison often leads to frustration rather than growth.

While acknowledging that luck may not favour everyone equally, he reassured students that hard work, discipline and sincerity invariably lead to success. Even if results are delayed, he said, effort never goes unrewarded in the long run.

India Emerging as a Creator of Technology

Highlighting India’s innovation-driven growth, the Vice-President said the country is no longer merely an adopter of global technologies but is steadily emerging as a creator of technology. He recalled India’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Indian scientists rose to the challenge and developed indigenous vaccines.

Referring to national initiatives such as Digital India, Startup India and Make in India, he said these programmes have strengthened India’s technological confidence and entrepreneurial ecosystem. He commended CMRIT for nurturing over 50 start-ups through its Innovation and Incubation Centre.

Viksit Bharat Vision and National Confidence

The Vice-President said educational institutions serve as guiding lights for the youth and are indispensable in shaping India’s destiny. He explained that the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 aims to build a strong and self-reliant nation.

“The objective is not to dictate terms to other nations, but to ensure that no one ever dictates terms to Mother Bharat,” he said, stressing that true national strength must rest on knowledge, innovation, self-reliance and moral confidence.

NEP 2020 and Call for a Drug-Free Youth

Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, the Vice-President said it provides a comprehensive roadmap for empowering India’s youth to face future challenges with confidence. He noted that the policy promotes multidisciplinary learning while remaining deeply rooted in Indian culture and ethos.

He also cautioned students against all forms of addiction and urged them to remain vigilant against substance abuse. Calling upon the youth to say “No to Drugs,” he said a healthy, focused generation is essential for national progress.
